AVs aren't signing Horvat long term, So they're not giving up Newhook for a 3 month rental and that's if they win the cup.

with these moves they would have 15+ mill coming off the cap next season. Why not try and re-sign him. By ram wontncost as much as people think with his injuries and you could probably get a decent bridge deal to get you to the years where the cap expands.

The Jackets are not looking for reclamation project forwards, or (with rare exceptions) roster player swaps for Gavrikov. Girard isn't of interest.

As a Canucks fan I'd love that but there's no reason for the Avs to do that when Newhook should be ready to take the 2C role in 2-3 years
