Honestly I hope the rumor of him doing Chicago a solid for next year

As man the way hes played and with the injuries the value is just not there rn. Its basically namesake thats keeping it stable

Now if he does come back and lights things up in 50 days then yea offers will go up. But rn its just not looking good.

He would be taking a risk, but he could receive more and better offers in 2024 than 2023, as not many competitive teams will have cap space to sign a big UFA this summer.

And now he could be back as soon as Saturday.

Even then going on IR and with the reports hes apparently playing hurt does not help his value.

I still think a team will pay a premium for him. Something like a 1st and a 2nd or even two 1st.

It's a lot easier to fit his salary on a deadline deal than signing with a competitor in the off-season. He could sign a one-year big payday deal with Chicago, and still find room on a competitor at the deadline. How many competitors are going to want to tie up $8M+ in the off-season vs how many can handle the 1/3 prorated amount at the deadline with or without retention?

Just using $10M to use easy math, that's $10M cap with an off-season deal for the contending team. Or leave $3.3M accumulating open during the summer and trade for him at the 2/3 point of the season. And that's before 50% retention.
If you had $2M open cap space accumulating at the season start, you've got more than enough to bring in Patrick Kane on a $10M deal at the 2/3 point without having to move cap out if Chicago retains.

And from Kane's bank account's perspective a one-year $10M deal in Chicago and getting shipped at the deadline probably sounds better than a one-year seven million deal on a contender.

OEL is one of the most mercurial players I've ever watched. His head is not in the game. He hasn't been the same since his mom died. He still shows why he could be elite occasionally, but it looked like he stopped caring while he was still in AZ. Thought maybe it was related to the coaching change and general Coyote-malaise. I thought he would bounce back post-trade. I thought he looked decent, not great, in the games I saw last year.

Honest question: I know he is definitely not worth his cap hit, but how far off the cliff has he fallen? Is he really healthy-scratch bad this year or is this a coaching head game trying to push buttons on his guys as the wheels fall off his team?

well the miller extension was not nearly as bad as the OEL trade. At least Miller gets decent points.
