the last thing the leafs need is a super expensive bottom pairing defender with limited speed and mobility who cant even get the puck out of his own end, let alone paying anything good for one

Simeone's going to pay a 1st for Edmundson, not saying he's worth it, but every year teams over pay for defensive minded d-man. Savard, Chiarot as examples

Someone is going to overpay for him, but it won't be Toronto. Can't see them trading for a defenseman at all, let alone one who's been at best cataclysmal this season.

yeah, but savard was actually pretty good. BUt then Chariot was literally a bottom 3 defender in the league so i guess it balances out

whoever pays a 1st for him should and probably will be fired in the off-season. total waste of assets especially in such a deep draft.

So who's the shut down Dman? Edmundson is not an improvement over LHD Reilly, Giordano and Sandin or Brodie who can move to the left side.

I just don't see why the Leafs need to add another D? LW to play with Tavares and Marner? Yes.

if you kept a list of the players who were only going to be traded for 1st rounders according to radio hosts then about 40 1st rounders would have be traded every year

Montreal has no reason to move Edmundson for a late 2nd, they like him and he's not on an expiring contract. The price of big physical D who can skate and are well regarded around the NHL (rightly or wrongly) has also been around a late 1st for, like, 4 seasons now.

It's very convenient how you managed to create a "worth a 1st" niche that covers everyone from victor hedman to ristolainen.
And no, the market for bottom pairing defenders like Edmundson who make high end 2nd pair money is not a 1st even though montreal robbed Florida last year. That was simply a bad bad trade

To interpret what I said as applying to Hedman is a frankly insane leap of logic.

The last time Edmundson was a bottom pairing D-man was 2017 as well, so I have no idea where you're getting that from.

You're also ignoring guys like Savard and Manson. Edmundson may get traded for just a late 2nd or less, but it wont be at this deadline, it'll be in 2024.

I'm also perfectly happy seeing Toronto continuously ignore the types of players that make a difference in the playoffs, but front offices don't think the way you do.

Yes, its almost like i was using extreme example because your description of what type of defender is worth a 1st was so vague.
And Edmundson is a bottom pairing defender, just because he plays higher up on a terrible team doesnt change that.
And you see, savard and manson were much better than Edmundson, thats why they were worth more, it is really very simple.
Could a team give up a 1st for Edmundson? Sure, teams make bad trades all the time, but that doesnt mean he's worth that.
