Not worth the cost of acquisition.
We don't benefit from trading for him without an extension in place and we don't need him before he hits free agency.
Either we win him in free agency because we still have that need, or somebody else takes that role before he becomes available. No need to rush out and make a big trade.

Dubois might be able to be had, but it won't be for an offer that isn't competitive with the others.

The first is a good start, but a collection of C/D prospects and a 2 years of a highly overpaid 4th liner doesn't add any value. This offer is beaten quite easily by many, many teams.

thats easily double what i would be willing to trade for Dubois. Theres no reason to make this deal for the habs.

What about FLA 1st/Roy and DV for salary purposes? I know that you guys are good for cap space next year, but he would be expensive as a 3C behind Suzuki and PLD and we could use him as a placeholder on the Jets till we figure what the hell we are doing with Scheif and Helly.

Put yourself in the shoes of every other GM in the league outside WIN & MTL.

Word going around is that PLD wants to play in MTL. If you’re a GM in the league, acquiring PLD is only a rental since he’ll be UFA in the summer of ‘24. No GM in the league is going to make a significant offer for PLD.

You can acquire 2 late 1st rd picks for him, lose him for nothing via UFA, or acquire 4 assets for him.

The bodies in the deal are support staff, I totally agree with that.

Dvorak is a 3C, 30-40 pts/yr, good on faceoffs. He has “some” value.

Harris is an all around rookie dman who will likely be a 2LD. He has more value than Dvorak.

Farrell is an offensive C with a high ceiling. He has value.

The biggest piece in this deal is the draft pick. It’s currently a top10 pick in a deep draft. WIN will never get an offer that includes that high of a pick for PLD.

For those who say I’m overpaying… we have the depth to make such a move (on defence), we need to shed salary to fit him on the roster, and it sends a message to the league that this rebuild is going to the next level. It could make UFAs consider MTL.
