I think the lowest pick that will be given up for schenn is a 2nd and that's if no other teams are interested.

i think that is very incorrect. at absolute worst his price gets driven up to a 2nd, most likely a 3rd, lowest is a 4th

Why exactly are we trading major assets to push power to third pair?

I dont see any major assets, but also, the same reason you all wanted Krebs on the 4th line (which I said was a bad idea and would hurt his growth and here we are), The Sabres roll 3 defensive pairs so it shouldnt matter. Fowler can play both sides so Power and Fowler could even be pairs, Power also gets PP and SH time, so it probably wouldnt even hurt his TOI

If you are wanting Freddie, you are going to have to pry him out of Carolina. That offer gets beaten rather easily. No reason to move him for a subpar return.

Hes the worst of the 3 goalies, coming off an injury, and a UFA at the end of the year, I didnt think it was that dire

Columbus's season is over. No point in bringing in another depth D now.

The Ducks are not trading their only top-4 defenseman for a bunch of parts.

Freddie is better than Raanta when both are healthy, and neither are healthy right now. If all three goalies are healthy, and they do decide to trade one - which they won’t - Raanta is the more likely trade candidate.

They’d trade Freddie to the Kings for a defender before they’d trade any goalie for futures.

Maybe picking up a waiver claim wouldn’t hurt, but at this point I see you being right, Columbus shouldn’t be spending picks you get help, just suck as much a possible at this point.

A 2023 1st is a major asset.

If we do nothing, Johnson is a 2nd.

Fowler plays 25-28 minutes a night. At least have the decency to include an NHL roster defenseman going to the Ducks in the trade. Note that I didn't say they would never trade Fowler... I said they wouldn't trade him for a bunch of parts.

Mittlestadt ... middle 6 center verging on bust with the Ducks deep down the middle already
Portillo ... a fine goalie prospect but not any better than Dostal or Clang
Johnson ... would be about 6th on the Ducks LD prospect depth chart
Murray ... AHL nobody

What on that list makes me want to trade Cam Fowler.

Johnson would be directly behind Mintyukov
Portillo is above Clang
and Murray by all accounts should be in the NHL, and would easily be middle 6 in Anaheim, but is hardly the focus at that point

We can go back and forth all day on opinions of these players. Portillo might be ahead of Clang but he's surely behind Dostal. Regardless, he's adding a 3rd guy to the mix for no real reason. Murray reminds me a bunch of Brett Leason. A guy claimed off waivers and that is already on the roster.

The biggest contention I'd make though with your evaluations is with Johnson. Clearly he'd be behind both Mintyukov and Zellweger. I'd also put him behind Thrun and Lacombe without any doubt (my opinion ofcourse). Tyson Hinds is also in this conversation. Johnson is likely ahead of Hinds except for one key aspect, Hinds is already signed to an NHL contract and Johnson is a pending UFA (exactly as Thrun and Lacombe are).

I will straight up tell you the Ducks have zero interest in Johnson.

How does that matter? Does it erase 5 guys ahead of him on the depth chart?

Still contend that if Carolina does anything with a goalie trade it might be an upgrade to Raanta. And it could be just a swap of rentals. They have bigger needs right now, but if goalie health does become a longer term issue then this becomes a priority indeed.
