Both can be true. They could be getting interest from other teams. Even significant interest.
But I imagine those deals have ways to water down his cap hit, either through retention or by sending back a contract (similar to Petry/Matheson deal). Devils don’t have a lot of dead weight on their roster since our team is so young and our GM likes short-term contracts. So it would have to be retention for us. But other teams may be offering more with guys like Foegele, Coyle, Kassian, Pearson, etc attached.
