More trades need to happen. I suspect Holl and Kerfoot will be traded. Or the Leafs and Murray come to a mutual understanding and he is put on LTIR for the rest of the season, at which point he will be bought out.

Just playing devils advocate here.
But why would Murray play along with that plan and potentially hurt his future prospects and contracts by doing that? He doesn’t owe the leafs that?

Wouldn't he jeopardize his career by coming back and getting injured again, as he is likely to do based on recent history? What would be the point of that? It would be better for him to take the whole season off, get healthy, see the best doctors available to the Leafs, and play with the team next year.

That would be the best path forward both for the player and the team.

I think the team would want him back this year, but once there is more clarity on Muzzin's situation such that they can make moves to set themselves straight without being in a position of weakness. The latest they probably want him back for is the playoffs.

that sir is circumventing the Cap, you cant keep a player on LTIR that is healthy. If Murray is healthy you have to activate him.
He waived his NMC to go to Toronto, I dont see any scenario that after 1 start he decides he will be a pawn in a cap circumvention scheme.

I'd give you 100-to-1 odds Fowler's 4-team trade list is Detroit and three of Colorado, Las Vegas and the two Florida teams.

Murray is never 100 percent healthy. He's permanently in between health and injury, in limbo. So it's not circumventing the cap when the guy has an injury sheet as long as Murray's.

That is not how it works, if he is cleared medically to play, he has to be activated.
That is 100% cap circumvention. You cant stash players on LTIR for cap relief who can be activated. You cant "handshake deal" your way out of that.

The NHL reviews all medical records, and Doctors arent signing off on fraudulent records to make it seem like Murray isnt cleared just so the leafs get cap relief. Team Doctors are not employees of the team, they still follow their professional Hippocratic oath. They arent chancing malpractice suites for Leafs cap space

I see Muzzin as a physical 6'3" 217 lbs LHD that averaged approximately 2 hits a game and had an offensive upside of approximately 0.5 ppg. He was just about to turn 30 when the Leafs acquired him and his 5.8% Cap hit at the time would be equivalent to approximately $4.9 MIL with an additional year left.

Not sure who replaces him in the league currently (LHD or RHD) . There is certainly no Leaf that can replace that role.

I get all that. The NHL is a very professional league. But even if Murray is activated to play tonight, by tomorrow morning he will wake up with a sore foot and immediately be placed on IR again. That's not hyperbole. That's a reasonable expectation. So why deal with that headache? Just place him on LTIR permanently so the Leafs can focus on acquiring players who can actually play.

Yea, in many ways he was a unicorn. The Leafs were better with him on it. But a top 4 LH defenceman needs to be added because Giordano is too old and Sandin is not ready yet.

that is not how to works either. The injury, which the medical staff would have to determine that they will expected to miss at least 10 NHL Games AND 24 days of the NHL season. That is how you get on LTIR.
Banged up isnt LTIR bound, a player or team cant determine if they will miss that amount of time games, medical staffs do. Once again, you would be claiming that Team Doctors would create fraudulent medical records so he could go on LTIR again.

And dont kid yourself for a second that the NHL wouldnt be investigating those records if the leafs were playing LTIR yoyo with Murray. Also you cant buyout Injured players. Only way you could buy him out is if he passed his season ending physical, at at that point that would expose the LTIR cap circumvention scheme as well. There is no way to hand shake deal around this type of thing.

Just a bad trade for the Leafs. Leafs have LHD. Leafs are infinitely better, keeping Robertson, the first and having 6.5 Fowler for the next three full seasons. Yea the trade would likely help the Leafs this season. Besides Fowler isn't that special.
But the cap really doesn't work either. Thought Muzzin "might" be on LTIR all season. no reason to think Murray is. And those two players could be back next season.
You wrote a about silly and false scenario on how LTIR works.

We are talking Murray here, not Muzzin right?

Murray pulled his groin in warmups, which isn’t some catastrophic injury which would require taking a season off to recover from lol. You’re acting like the man suffered some kind of a life altering injury as a result of a freak accident or something
