Why would you pay a first to acquire a fourth liner who isn't very cheap? Kovacevic seems like an alright depth defenceman but that's still alot to dump Barrie. That 1st could be used to significantly improve the team not just very slightly improve the team maybe.

Would prefer not to trade Jake. Maybe in the offseason if Beck is 100% ready.

I wouldn't. A 2nd for Evans could be enough, but if they want MTL to take Barrie's contract, switch the 2nd to a 2024 1st. If they want to add Kovacevic, make it a 2023 1st instead.
