Kings aren't moving Kaliyev, the Kings biggest weakness was goal scoring, and Kaliyev is one of the Kings most promising offensive young players in their system.

Iafallo for Girard has some appeal. We're not trading Kaliyev, who's going to be more expensive (a consideration for Colorado) than Iafallo very soon.

I'm not even interested in Toews for Kaliyev. Byram, that would make me think.

Why not Toews? He's one of the best shutdown defensemen in the league and has gotten Norris votes both years with Colorado, in addition to being a great skater.

Kings already have enough shutdown defenseman, they need a dynamic guy to pair with Roy while Clarke becomes what we hope he can be. In addition, Toews is already 28. I'm not saying that's old, it's just a bit outside the age group the Kings are trying to add to (23-26 ish. example being Fiala). And I feel like LA would be more likely to go with a younger player than an older player. Arvidsson is an example of them doing the opposite, because he was 28 when he was brought in. But I think that was more due to the lack of depth at wing, as opposed to the actual age the Kings want to address. The Kings proved their defensive core can get them to the playoffs even with massive amounts of injuries. So I think they can be very selective of what they want.

Toews is a great player, and worth a lot in terms of value. He's just not the guy I trade offense for when it comes to how the Kings need to build their roster and address the shortcomings the team has. Which, as I've mentioned, is -and has been for decades- scoring.

I see, thanks for the insightful response! I think it might make sense for the Kings to go all-in on Matthews if the Leafs let his contract expire, at least when their prospects like Clarke begin to churn out and players like Kempe and Fiala are in their prime, he certainly would fill the void Kopitar left, and provide some scoring.
