If Colorado needs a Centre

Description
Colorado fans must be tired of these trades but I have yet to see one that might entice Joe Sakic as much as this one could.
We are talking about a serious package: Dach is a top 3 pick with untapped potential under team control for years to come, Struble is a hard-nosed second rounder Dman who can come up at the end of the year, and Ty Smilanic is a fast-skating local boy. If another depth Dman is needed to fill the Girard void then Schueneman would be the guy to take.

Would habs fans be happy if the traded Dach for a package like this? I know Sammy is a good Dman, but the Habs also traded a top 15 pick to get Dach.

theres a reason hughes acquired dach and i think that he's being kept until we see what he can do with a new team. theres no one behind dvorak after his deal expires to be a good 2C behind suzuki and MTL is hoping dach becomes that

Well Romanov would never(not even if there was a fire) get you Girard 1 for 1. So if trading what you got from trading Romanov gets you Girard, I see that as a huge win.

I would suggest taking out Ty and giving Avs their 2nd back. That way Avs "media" can talk about offer sheets on some Tuesday off day pod.

Positionally? No. MTL needs to get some centres developed and established before anything. We've been trash up the centre forever. I'm not debating the valuation, I'm stating that moving centres is counter productive for this team.

Girard is so overated. At least Romanov could play defense. Girard have really good offensive instincts but defensively he suck. He can’t play physical and lack size so probably there a big reason why Colorado are stuck with Girard even with all the rumors that where out there about trading Girard. No one want a 30 point undersized defenseman who can’t play defense. Habs will keep Dach.

That was not stated in the post I quoted but I see what you mean. My view is that if from A to C you improve without creating a bigger hole elsewhere, you don't care about B. Removing Romanov(glad you did) to get Dach's rights is an add, but at the expense of the defense. I would argue you guys have a serious need for what Girard provides and now its even bigger.
Do you have any young centers you are excited to watch develop that are pro? Just curious.

Show me some stats that show Girard cant play defense. The dude has been a mainstay on the best defense in the league since he was 19 or 20. You don't get 20+min a game being a liability. Size is your only valid point but MTL is full of oversized pylons.

MTL moved Romanov because Guhle will be better and Xhekaj is a Romanov but on steroids. Jordan Harris showed he is NHL ready and he’ll have a NHL career. Romanov was the guy with the most value outside Guhle, so they get a C much needed. For MTL, the only Center turning pro will be Jan Mysak. After that it falls to Riley Kidney who’s going to play in the Q. We don’t need a Sam Girard, Matheson does exactly what he does, just worse. Harris is very similar to Girard, now we need to see if he can put up 20+ points. Wideman is our PP specialist, Savard and Edmundson defensive dman, we just need one offensive dman and it’s gonna be between Matheson and Harris. Barron might be in the mixed as well

That would be rough expecting that out of Matheson or Harris. As for Wideman, you gotta play the players you're given but thats not a great spot to be in. Thanks for the run down on Habs center depth. I can see why you value Dach so much. If it as thin as you mentioned, why are there Dvorak rumours? Seems like a decent 3c that wouldnt get in the way of a real 2C, or is cap that tight next year?

He's one of the most traded players here because he has value and fans know Colorado is gonna be in cap hell soon.
It doesn't mean he's worth that much.

Top 4D are always in demand. Just because you don't think he's worth that much doesn't mean he isn't. Just because a young stud like Byram took his job doesn't mean Girard isn't good anymore.

After last season I'm intrigued to see how Kidney pans out, Mysak too. They won't likely be anything higher than 2/3C but would still love to watch their development. I really hope Dach lives up to his hype and draft position otherwise we wasted Romanov (I'm very high on Rom as he's a beast defensively/physically). The next 2-3 years will be interesting to watch for sure, more so in Laval/Junior over watching the Habs but still fun to watch the development and how Hughes makes his moves.

So to answer your inquiry: Kidney, Mysak, & Dach are the three I'm really interested in watching develop.

Also, we don't really need defense since our goal isn't to be good or win. If necessary we can survive as we are now for the year and revisit it next year, no need to go acquire a guy for a team that's gonna be trash for 2-3 years at a minimum

Dvorak is fine, played like a 3C under Ducharme when he was supposed to be better than Danault but put up 17 points in 22 games under MSL. The reason why Dvorak is getting traded is because he’s the only one with value. Suzuki Caufield Slafkovsky Dach aren’t getting moved, Kent Hughes already said he likes Anderson and he declined serious offers for him the last TDL. After that you fall into cap dumps territory : Gallagher, Monahan, Drouin, Hoffman, Armia & Byron. So the only good players left are Pitlick Evans Dvorak. Pitlick only has one season behind the belt and he’s almost free at 1.1M so he ain’t getting moved and no team would gave a 2nd RD pick for him. Evans is a solidify 4C who might turn into a 3C, but I feel like management sees him like their 4C going forward. For the defense, Edmundson have been so good no one trade him ever, that’s why we don’t see some Edmundson trade. Sooooo steady for us. Savard is playing fine for 3.5M but again, we lack so many RHD we ain’t moving him. But for Wideman you are so wrong, the dude is Tyson Barrie but with more grit and heart. Wideman is our best guy on the PP, he feeds everyone so well, best feeder with Suzuki. For the first part of your question about Matheson and Harris, we aren’t trying to win now. Matheson will be a stop-gap and MTL will evaluate Harris in the next season if he’s the answer for our offensive guy
