Description
Keep in mind this is just my opinion don’t be a just comment what you would do differently I love to hear everyone’s thoughts

For the ducks, I don’t think Klingberg contract is bad it is more that they don’t really have any bad contracts
, same with Carolina, colorado, red wings, Kings, Wild, blues, Tampa

Can a backup goalie making an amount that can be fully buried really be considered a bad contract? lol

Chiarot for Wings, no idea how you got to Bertuzzi. Blues is Leddy (I know someone will vouch for him but he just sucks), Islanders is Bailey, Seattle is Grubauer, Kings would be Doughty before Kopitar, not sure for Tampa but it isnt perry. he is very solid. Probably would have to go Phillipe Myers.

Carolina - Skjei or Gardiner... burns might hurt later on
Detroit- Chariot will be a stinger later on
Colorado- Johnson right now and i don't see nichuskin's contract aging well
Kings- That is an easy one neither doughty or Kopitar are worth their contract anymore. Kopi probably 2-2.5 mill overpaid but doughty is about 3-4 mill overpaid, peterson contract is questionable same with danault if he doesn't repeat his 21-22 season production
Wild- are actually pretty safe outside of their buyouts. i think spurgeron should be solid till maybe the last year of his deal
Blues- have quite a few long term bad contracts that won't age well, Brayden Schenn/ Torey Krug/ Justin Faulk/ Colton Parayko(questionable)/ Nick Leddy/ Jordan Binnington(lost the job to husso but recovered during PO's)/ Scandella alot of those contracts take them till their mid to later 30's where they will not be worth it and may cause salary issues when they need to re-sign some of their upcoming younger players.
Tampa- Paul isn't bad money wise but i don't like the thought of giving depth guys more then 3-4 years. Vasi isn't bad but personally i don't like to pay goalies more then 7 mill at most.
Sergachev's contract will be a disaster he shouldn't even be close to making Makar/Mcavoy/Josi/Fox/Heiskanen money. Cernak is a slight overpay him and carlo are very similiar dmen and carlo just signed for 1.1 mill less which isn't a big deal but for a cap strapped team every dollar counts.

Canes isn’t Skjei by any means. Gardiner is very inconvenient, and with his injury history, makes his the worst contract. Burns for what he provides, especially with a likely career revival, will probably me more than worth it. And I have heard for Staal as well, and what he doesn’t do offensively, he makes up for tenfold with his defensive capabilities, faceoff abilities, and leadership.

For the Jets I would it’s probably more of a toss up between Wheeler and Schmidt. They are both still useful players but are without a doubt overpaid.

I like Lindgren but they signed him to a 3 year one way deal for 1.1 mil when he has almost no solid nhl experience yes he put up good numbers last year but he played 5 games. That doesn’t get you a 3 way deal. He has never proven that he can be a backup that can play 20 games and put up good stats.

I didn’t do injured players. I agree skjei is good that’s why I put the canes as a team that doesn’t really have any bad contracts

I was gonna do wheeler but he was really productive last year and so I feel like he wasn’t as bad of a contract

Totally agree J just didn’t do injured players and I put the canes as a team that don’t really have a lot of bad contracts.

Yeah I’m surprised his offensive production hasn’t really had much of a drop off for his age. His defensive play on the other hand though, yikes lol

If AAV is the theme, it makes sense. Otherwise, the longer the contracts are, the worse it is.

Let's say player A has a $6M cap hit for one more season and plays at like a $2M player. That's $4M in total negative value.
Player B has a cap hit of $5M for two more seasons and plays like a $2.5M player. That's $2.5M x 2 years which is $5M in negative value. Player B has the worse contract. This is why most players with one year left on their deals don't have the worst contract on their teams.

Agreed with Johansen, Seguin, Pietrangelo, Zaitsev, Bobrovsky, Skinner, OEL, Vlasic. For the rest, I would say something like this

ANA-Silfverberg
ARI-Nemeth/Ladd
BOS-Coyle
BUF-Skinner
CGY-Zadorov (Coleman maybe)
CAR-Kotkaniemi
CHI-Jones
COL-Manson
CBJ-Werenski
DAL-Seguin
DET-Chiarot
EDM-Nurse
FLA-Bobrovsky
LAK-Doughty
MIN-Spurgeon
MTL-Price
NSH-Johansen
NJD-Palat (Hamilton if he regresses soon)
NYI-Lee
NYR-Trocheck
OTT-Zaitsev
PHI-Ristolainen
PIT-Rakell
SJS-Vlasic
SEA-Grubauer
STL-Parayko
TBL-Paul/Myers
TOR-Tavares
VAN- Ekman-Larsson
VGK-Pietrangelo
WSH-Backstrom
WPG-Wheeler/Morrissey

That is a good way of looking at it. Like you pointed I took more of the AAV approach but I definitely see how your approach makes just as much sense
