Why trading John Gibson away does not make any sense for Anaheim

ANA
Anaheim is now further away from the Cap Floor.
    TOR
Before this trade for Gibson, Anaheim was ~18 million short of the floor.

After the trade, they are ~24.4 million short of the floor.

They now need to spend all of that on something before the season begins in October.

Toronto declines can’t afford to take a gamble on a goalie that’s been bad for 3 seasons. And it wasn’t just because his defense sucked stolartz a career backup performed fine this season. What’s happening with Gibson reminds me a lot of what’s happening with Matt Murray

Anaheim would be able to take salary back, and while they had a good season, Getzlaf is retiring, Manson likely isn't returning, Rakell likely isn't returning, and Lindholm definitely isn't returning. They lost 4 higher end roster players this year, they likely take a step back this coming season as they fully embrace the younger players in their pipeline. I think it makes perfect sense.

Anaheim can sell anything they want, ufas will flock if the team is mediocre or better. Interesting forwards coming, but still need to find some defenseman and some more forwards to grow with future goalie

You were in such a hurry to parrot the usual Gibson-is-garbage mantra that you completely missed the point of this post.

          Read the title again.

This ACGM has nothing whatsoever to do with the effect on the other team, or even the identity of the other team.

This is a bit extreme. McTavish should make the team. Perreault has a shot too but I highly doubt Tracey and Helleson do so there will be higher cap hits there.

Also based on Verbeek’s comments they’ll be making a trade or a few and I expect one of those to be a young player who’s got at least a decent size contract.

If Gibson is traded another veteran goalie will be added too. Dostal isn’t quite ready (Clang is further behind him in development) for full time NHL role. And there’s the probability that there’s some cap coming back in a Gibson trade. I’d expect an NHL player as part of the return, whether that’s a young player as the main piece or an older player to make cap work.

I wonder if a domi or strome end up there, 27/28 to 32/33 would kind of fit a veteran leadership window, and some depth In top 9 and take on a few different roles as the kids progress.

Honestly if Anaheim does not trade Gibson then they are missing out on a potential kings ransom

Hes in his prime rn and by the time they are scratching the surface of once again competing hes gonna be near the end of his deal. Why not let him try to compete for a cup while hes got a chance.

As when Manson, Lindholm, Rakell, and Getzlaf are gone thats when you know Anaheim is officially gonna enter a rebuild and hes gonna get in the way of it.

Sure they got space to bring in some UFA's but one wrong move and you end up like Chicago

Woof, don't get me started on Chicago, it was a lot more than one wrong move, but your point is valid.

Tried to think of another team to use but Chicago sadly demonstrated the wrong way to rebuild as they tried to rush out of it and it came back to bite them.

As if they stayed patient things would have been much better. At least they got assets for MAF and Keith.

Was Chicago trying to rush out of a rebuild or was Bowman just a ****ing disaster, I think it was probably just the latter.

I argue both but now that they decided rebuild I fear they are rushing the process

As why is Dach available for trade

I understand Kane, Toews, Strome, and Kubalik but Dach should be the center of the rebuild

Bowman was a disaster. I think Dach is in rumors because KD (And likely others) didn't want him with that pick, similar to the situation in Philly where nobody wanted Nolan Patrick, they wanted Heiskanen.

I’d prefer someone like Boeser. Go younger than Domi so they’ll still be good when we’re competing, and not a center because that’s arguably the one position the pipeline (other than goalie) that’s looking good between Z, McTavish, and Lundestrom. Locking up Terry, Boeser, and Perreault on the right would be solid. Then a big defenseman prospect at LD and RD to complement Drys and Zellweger, a couple LWs and they’re looking good
