  1. Fiala, Kevin
Détails additionnels:
The outcome of the draft lottery has no effect on Ottawa.

Ottawa is picking 7th overall.

This is who gets taken before it is Ottawa's turn to pick.

1. Montreal --- Shane Wright
2. Seattle --- Logan Cooley
3. Arizona --- Simon Nemec
4. Philadelphia --- Matthew Savoie
5. New Jersey --- Juraj Slafkovsky
6. Columbus --- David Jiricek

You're now on the clock and you have two options.

A. Keep the 7th overall pick and select the best player available.

B. Swap the 7th overall pick straight up for Kevin Fiala.

If you made the swap, you would sign Fiala to an extension of 8 million x 8.

The extension would contain no signing bonus money.

But the last 4 years of it would have a full-NMC.

What would you do?

That’s absolutely a must. They already have a dynamic top line. They need to address a vet that can give they some secondary scoring.

Or it’s going to be another long year.

I agree. I’m 50/50 on if Dorion can deliver that

Do they still get a pass next year if no playoffs and another high pick?

I just see the wars in front of the net, and believe ottawa maybe needs another heavy that is skilled enough for top 6, over the lighter skilled fiala. League is getting lighter and faster, but certain spots still need a little weight.

Fiala weighs 204 lbs, he's not light.

If it’s 7th overall, I’m taking Kemell. If it’s 8th and Kemell is gone I’d trade it.

Also I’d rather trade Formenton + protected 2023 1st instead

What happened to Lambert? He's gonna be a steal.

The drafting days are over. Our top line is set. Stutzle needs help on line 2. We have the bottom 6 and Sanderson has arrived on defence

But the drafting days aren't over and frankly neither is the rebuild. It's close but they have a top 10 pick. When they are picking outside of top 14, meaning they are contending for playoffs or in them, then I would agree. But rebuilds take time and there's nothing wrong with stacking assets. Sens are doing a great job so far and the team is building together. Drafting the right guy can become more valuable than a 1st.

Last time the sens felt it was the right time they traded the 10th and Silverberg for Bobby Ryan, then got impatient and traded zibanejad for a 'better' veteran in Brassard *sigh*. Then did it again with Duchene. They have to learn haha. While I think Fiala is better than Ryan at the same age, I don't want a repeat of that bs

Personally I want to see growth like outside the top 10. So I'd be disappointed but give a pass for sure. Until they become playoff favourites I won't have expectations

That would make it 7 consecutive losing seasons. How much time are you giving them?

I mean, Duchene asked to be traded out of Ottawa. Ottawa would of rather kept him if given the chance.

No he didn’t. He didn’t want to commit to a team starting a rebuild in the middle of his prime years which is very fair. Same with stone

They traded for Duchene from the avs. 1st, 3rd, bowers plus the turris return for Duchene. I'm not talking about sens trading him to columbus but they did get assets back. Net loss

I like MatthewsFan analysis above. But the Sens have good young prospects and picks. I think they owe to fans and their team to "win" now. A signed long term contract for Fiala for the 7th....I think it good for the Sens and Wild and Fiala.
Dicking around by signing Giroux or some player short term, and then hoping in couple your pick is NHL really good or you can find another UFA.....no, go for it now with Fiala.

I don't go by losing seasons and it's not an accurate look at the rebuild imo. Personnel wise, the rebuild didn't start till Karlsson and stone were traded during the 18-19 season stripping it right down. The losing seasons before that were miscalculations by management and they weren't committed to rebuilding until that season. It's been 4 years of gaining draft picks and assets. Usually takes 5 years for average prospects to get to the NHL. So Id say it's still young despite losing seasons before that. It wouldn't shock me if they weren't a playoff team next year either.

I think the 23-24 season is where the draft picks have had time to prove themselves and its time to push for playoffs. I mean Sanderson is a 2020 pick and he's just going to start next year... No experience yet. He needs like 300 games to get seasoned, maybe less sif he's really good. 2019 pick Thompson isn't a regular. Doxker from 2018. They just take time
