Wow, didn't realize I'd get so badly raked over the coals for this one tears of joy

Call me crazy, but the Rangers should do this, IMO. I don't think they'll be the highest bidder for Strome, at least one of Copp/Vatrano isn't coming back, and Kreider isn't going to have this kind of a season again. Miller legitimately puts them back in the run for a cup-Shesterkin and Zibanejad/Panarin cannot carry them to a title alone. With Miller, they're back in the mix (this is assuming they don't win the Cup this year, which is far from a forgone conclusion either way).

Perfectly understand why Calgary would say no, but from the other side, they swap cap dump for cap dump (Monahan for OEL), and get what could be the missing piece. But agreed that I don't see it as much as I do for the Rangers.

But I completely feel that the Devils deal is fair. How is that not enough for Boeser?

Keep the debate rolling...

Ummm...no, they're not. You follow hockey? Their chances stand at 6%, per Vegas.

Of course they don't. But at least he's a cap dump that would make it into the lineup, whereas Monahan has plummeted to the point that he's a healthy scratch at times.

He would very likely be bottom pairing for us. We don't need a 6 mill bottom pairing dman. Also if we are trading Monahan its to make cap space to resign 13 19 88 and 58. Not taking on a mkre expensive contract. Monahan also has a shorter contract iin a position we actually need

Apart from that Calgary trade ( OEL is a big cap dump so no way Calgary moves a 1st there ) looks decent

The problem is that OEL is a much worse cap dump than Monahan (more expensive for longer), and you have the Flames adding a 1st and top prospect for some reason. Also, I feel like Monahan will return (slight) positive value from someone, too many teams need talented centres and there aren't many 27yos with 7 20+ goal seasons under their belt available. With only one year left, there's not much risk, and he'll be able to be had for like a mid-round pick or low-end prospect, which is a solid risk for many teams. Bringing in Horvat to be the 2C might be worth 1st+Zary, and Monahan would have to go the other way (saving the Flames a little bit of cap space, but we'd still have to move Lucic probably, in order to resign our 4 big free agents), but that's pretty close to fair right there. Adding OEL going to Calgary would mean significant negative value added going to Calgary, so to be fair, Vancouver would have to add significantly (like, I'd take out 1st+Zary and add more going to Calgary if Monahan for Horvat+OEL remained the base of the deal). Only Jim Benning is stupid enough to think OEL has positive value, and he'd be 3rd pair on Calgary lol

Ah, K. In that case, yes, but Boeser's an RFA, Miller and Horvat each have a year left, and the Canucks likely don't have the space to resign any of them. Hence the possible impending rebuild.

Just go Miller for Schneider one-for-one.

Maybe its enough value-wise, but with the amount good wingers on the market this year (and every year)...it may not be the best option for NJD.

1. RANGERS ARE NOT TRADING SCHNEIDER OR KAKKO 😂

2. JT would give us 1 run and then we’d fall back to a fringe type team. Kakko and Schneider are both gettting better, young and will be here for 5-10 years, cheap in a cap crunch era. I’m taking healthy Kakko over Schneider over JT who we are all basing his value on an absolute career high which he could likely repeat and for only 1 year. We didn’t have Kakko for most of the season so when healthy he can fill a void I. Strome or vatrano. Copp can replace Strome at 2C. Blais will fill our depth and rumblings that Kravs is back in New York in the summer early for training. Othmann may even earn a spot. I’m not concerned about our offence, but I don’t want to hinder our D by moving Schneider

Can't say I agree with all of this (it's no guarantee that Copp resigns, Kravtsov is a bust and wants out anyways, Blais has been a 4th line grinder his entire career despite his good start earlier this year) but appreciate that you at least explain your position instead of just resorting to "they're untouchable and aren't getting traded, throw in McDavid then we'll talk"

laugh laugh Rangers can't afford J. T. Miller at his reported asking price of $8,500,000 x 8 years. And Calgary with Horvat and Oliver Ekman-Larsson Yeah after signing both Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk they can't afford Horvat and OEL. None of those 3 trade proposals return anywhere near those returns.
