AVS 22-23 - Final Year All-In Read Description

Description
BUF trade is roughly based on this AGM proposal:
https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/3201343

Don’t care about cap space in 23-24, we are worried about winning a cup in 22-23. Salary cap increases by probably 2mil, Newhook and Byram can get bridge deals, MacKinnon takes a team friendly deal, we can make it work.

If push comes to shove, any of the Girard/Trocheck/Manson/Lehkonen/Burakovsky contracts can easily be moved for picks and prospects to make additional cap space.

Again, one year, all-in, cap space can be sorted at seasons end.

Past three seasons, on pace for 56pts per season.
5x5 deal isn’t that far off for 2C.

Buffalo would give you CGY’s 6th for Johnson. If you want us to take Compher we’ll give you Bjork and a 5th

I copied the link of the BUF AGM i pulled the trade idea from.

EJ is more valuable than a end of 6th rd CGY pick (this pick would be within 6-7 selections from the 7th round).
COL cant take on any cap period (no to Bjork).

Still don't think EJ would want to go to Buffalo but maybe he'd be cool with helping a young team rebuild. Don't think the Avs would want Cole back or he'd want to come back. But I could see Sakic making some signings like this which works so long as he doesn't give them NTC's.

Who knows who EJ will and wont waive for. I think BUF will start trending in the right direction soon and he wont be in danger of being bought out or healthy scratched as they need a player like him to be playing.
The Cole idea is mainly bringing back a veteran one year rental, and hes familiar with the squad and knows they are competitive. There been a few examples of COL bringing guys back after theyve left (like Soderburg and Nemeth),

i dont think history agrees with you, do you have any comparable? ufa center cost prenium. pageau was a much worst center and signed that deal. kevin hayes was a worst player and signed for 7mil a year. when was the last time a 28 years old.center ufa aigned aomething that cheap on 56pts pace? and tahts not counting all the 70 points before.

Best comparables:
Danault as 28y/o UFA C signed 6yr x 5.5mil with a 49pt pace (over 82 game season) over the previous 3 years prior to signing.20-21.
Gourde as a 28y/o UFA C signed 6yr x 5.16mil with a 54pt pace (over 82 game season) over the previous 3 years prior to signing in 19-20.

The difference in 5-6pt pace is easily made up if Danault and Trocheck were to switch places (Danault playing for the more offensively gifted CAR team and Trocheck playing for the lesser offensive threat in LAK). Same age, same 2C position, same UFA status and within 5-6pt pace over the past 3 years. Danault getting 500k more as the stronger defensive player between the two.

Also to mention income tax in LA being 10% and Colorado income tax being 4.5%.
Danaults take home of 5.5mil in LA vs Trocheck take home of 5mil in COL would be very close.

very fair points! i would say the biggest difference between these players is that they dont have the same offensive pedigree as trocheck which in my mind will be a big factors in the contract trocheck will sign. (gourde did not have a lot of nhl experience and danault was never a bignoffensive threat) + danault was coming off an awful year. i will be VERY surprised if he signs for anything less than 6mil. but i respect your opinion if you disagree!

true, but i feel some teams are in desperate.needs of centers like detroit for exemple and would be willing to put much more cash than colorado can afford for trocheck. now what he will choose in the end i dont know, maybe he will value to play for a team like colorado more, but trocheck was a bit underpaid for most of his career, i would not be surprised if he will just chase the biggest payday.

Its hard to say man.
Sure theres other teams willing to throw more money, but who knows if hes more interested in playing for a contender vs the money.
As for UFA C market, its thin but not terrible.
Trocheck, Kadri, Strome, Copp, Giroux, Malkin, Bergeron, Gagner, Paul, Johansson

i think one of strome or copp is a lock too come back in NY. malkin and bergeron should stay withctheir team and i think giroux will be a winger more than anything. that leaves you with about 3 good c ( idont think paul gagner and the other one are in the same conversation. )and there is just so many teams thin at c right, i think you can expect a bidding war qith the remaining candidates. (once again is just my opinion! but i think its the most likely scenario, who knows what will happen in the end!)

Too many Sabre fans reject all trades.
Johnson and Compher would fill two holes in the Buffalo line up, RHD and RW.
If they could find a decent GK they could be in the hunt next year.
In addition their combined AVV would help Buffalo reach the cap floor.
If Buffalo was not in the hunt at the 2023 TDL with 50% retention Johnson could return a first (he is far more valuable than Manson) and Compher a second.
I would make this trade as they fill needs, help Buffalo reach the cap floor and they could be flipped at the TDL for more than they cost Buffalo.

Not a bad idea to go all-in. I just don't see Sakic giving Burakovsky that deal or term. It'll probably also cost a lot more than that to move EJ. Trocheck also likely gets more than that.

I must be living rent free in your head for you to be mad enough to go lurking through my AGM from 9 days ago to hate post.

I’ve seen dozens of BUF fans accept this trade so I know you don’t know what you’re talking about
