The Blues don't have the cap space to resign Colton Parayko while maintaining their core. Leafs and Blues could have the answers to one another's needs.

To Toronto:
- RFA rights to Colton Parayko,
- Carl Gunnarson,
- Vince Dunn (Defensive Prospect)
- Ville Husso (Minor League Goalie/spot call up)
- 2018 3rd Round Pick

To St.Louis:
- 2018 2nd round pick (Via SJS)
- Brendan Leipsic (replaces Nail Yakupov)
- Connor Carrick (6th Defenseman with a right hand shot)
- Garret Sparks (starting goalie for their minor league team and potential back-up to Jake Allen)

Blues free up 3 million in cap space, and get back a mid to borderline top prospect in Leipsic, along with a 2nd round pick for the rights to Parayko. Maybe the leafs also send their 2018 6th round pick (Via PHX)

Blues are going to have cap. Terrible trade for Blues. The trade is really Parayko for Carrick. Blues can do a lot better if they were ever to trade Parayko. Leipsic and Sparks are questionable NHLers, so their trade value is virtually zero.

Well, its really more like 2nd round pick, carrick, leipsic for Parayko. Leafs could add a player like Shoshnikov or Rychel along with a conditional 3rd round pick in 2019 which becomes a 2nd if Parayko puts up 40 points.

Revised trade below, inserting Dermott and Rychel. So its basically 2nd round pick, Dermott, Leipsic and Rychel for Parayko, Dunn and a 3rd. Then Carrick and Sparks for Gunnarson and Husso.

Words can not describe how bad that would have been for ST. Louis, Army would not have been able to re-enter the States, as Blues fans would have become the new border patrol.
