Totally Agree with this. Also, let's not forget that the Oilers had trade talks with the Leafs which was centered around Larsson going to the Leafs in exchange for Connor Brown plus prospects and picks... Clearly the GM's don't value that high. So a 1st and a grade A prospect from Oilers is well within question.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Oil9729</b></div><div>I agree Nylander is better then any winger available in free agency but like I said he’s not worth Larsson, 1st round pick and Jones. Better off getting a player that would just cost the oilers nothing but money like Simmonds then lose all that. Nurse is better then all those guys you mention for the LD depth except Reily and is only 23 and on a cheap contract. Muzzin is already having a rough go as a leaf and is older. He was just brought in for the playoffs, he would still be a good bottom pairing D but I think Nurse is in the top 4 right away and is an answer to the D for the Leafs for the future. Muzzin only has 1 more year left on his deal then they would be looking for another Dman again. Riellly, Nurse, Muzzin is a solid left line. The main reason the trade makes sense is cause the Leafs NEED cap space. Trading Nylander and getting a cap hit coming back won’t happen. I think the trade works for both teams but I’m not sending all that away just for Nylander. It’s a fair trade 1 for 1 and Edmonton isn’t getting as hosed as it did for Hall for Larsson.</div></div>

The Problem with getting a player like Simmonds is he is just another player like Lucic who does not have a long term future with McDavid. You want a player who is around the same age group so that they can be in their prime with McDavid and is also locked up at a reasonable cap hit for his prime years. Also, Larsson, Caleb Jones and a 1st from Oilers for Nylander and Brown would only get the conversation started with the Leafs. It would require more from Oilers to get that trade done. Oilers get a 1st line Winger for McDavid and a 3rd Line winger who can also play anywhere up the line up when needed. Also Nurse straight up for Nylander is a stupid scenario because that ****s up oilers long term and also because him alone is not worth Nylander. You would still need to send a 3rd round pick or a B level prospect back. But either way he is not what the Leafs need so hence that trade would never happen.

Hamilton Nylander Ferland Lucic back to Boston
1) Even with 3 Million retained Boston would not take lucic back for 5 more years. You're stuck with him unless he gets bought out.
2) Ottawa does not need benning or want benning so why give up a draft pick? Benning is not worth more than a 6th or 7th round pick from a playoff team.
3) Leafs would hang up as Nurse is not what they need (he's a left handed defenseman) also, that trade is almost as bad as Hall for Larsson in terms of the leafs perspective. Swap Nurse with Larsson, 2019 1st round pick and Caleb Jones for Nylander and Brown
4) Oilers GM would be fired for this.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SammyT_51</b></div><div>You for sure would love getting Nylander but you aint gettin Nylander.. Ottawa does not want to trade with Toronto. At 4.5 mil, Zaitsev is better than Ceci..</div></div>
I am actually a Leafs fan but man the senators are a **** show... Nylander gets traded in the Off-season. No Way Toronto can keep him, Matthews (11.634 Million), Tavares (11.5 Million) and Marner (Minimum 10 Million since stone got 9.5 Million) on the same team while also resigning Johnsson (around 2.5 - 3.5 Million on a bridge deal) and Kapanen (3.0 - 3.5 Million on a bridge deal). The numbers don't work since they would have about 70 Million tied up if they kept Nylander on just their 13 forwards and two goalies. Nylander thus has to go and as a Leafs Fan I reluctantly put him in a trade scenario with Ottawa. I actually thought the trade favoured Toronto with the two draft picks which fall around (11 - 13th overall from Florida and 20-22nd overall from Columbus) and prospects going to the Leafs. Zaitsev is older and has 5 more years left on the contract. Ceci has more upside offensively.

Top Pair D-Man and 4th Line
- Spurgeon and Fehr know their roles and are a much needed upgrade for those positions.
- Winnipeg trade is a reach, but plausible if they feel like they need to go all in this year and try and resign Gardiner to a contract around 6.5 per (Cap comparable is Fowler from Ducks)
- Campbell is a late bloomer but is doing well on a ****ty team
- Blues trade is simply swapping for need, they get a third liner who can move up and down their line up and play either wing spot and we get a 6th Right handed D-man plus Maroon for grit.

the picks going the other way are more than enough. Muzzin got a late 1st and two B level prospects. And Dermott is better than what was sent for Muzzin. So the trade is fair.
Gardiner Trade solves Islanders need of a 2nd pairing Left handed Offensive Defenseman to play with Pulock. If you read the comment I made earlier, I realized it was lopsided in favour of Toronto which is why I suggested the 4th be turned into a 2nd round pick

Considering what Washington paid for Jensen. The trade with Islanders is reasonable but I will admit that the 4th round pick needs to be swapped out in terms of Toronto sending Islanders a 2nd round pick.
As far as the trade with Calgary goes, it's a similar price that Washington paid. but Calgary has control on Hickey for a few years.
Trade with Carolina seems fair because Ferland is a rental and Hamilton for some reason cannot stick with a team...Carolina gets a future top 4 defenseman back in Dermott, Current 4 or 5 defenseman in Zaitsev plus a B level prospect in Tymashov, C level prospects in Brooks and Lindgren and two second round picks and a 3rd round

I adjusted the canes trade in my comment above by swapping the 4th round pick into a 2nd and a 5th round pick. In terms of Miro from Dallas, Having Nylander up front as their 2nd line Center behind Seguin, Benn and Radulov might be worth it for them to do strictly based on the Offensive side, plus they get a 2nd pairing Defense man back in Gardiner who they can lock up at 5.5 - 6 Million per year and all they're losing is Spezza who they would not resign anyway at the end of the year.

Leafs Trading Nylander
Idea behind Leafs and Stars trade was Nylander for Heiskanen straight up. Then Gardiner for Spezza and Nichushkin. Then Leivo, Ennis and the Conditional 7th round pick we got from Dallas in exchange for two of their 6th round picks.
The trade between Leafs and Canes is tricky in which I think Leafs may have to turn the 4th round pick into a future 2nd and a future 5th round pick instead as Zykov has the potential to be a 2nd line winger.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Davisoc</b></div><div>... Umm, what!? With all due respect, this isn't NHL 2018. Who in their right mind would take those trades!?</div></div>
CBJ is desperate to get rid of Dubinsky's contract and they get back fair value as it's basically Zaitsev and Kapanen for Jones, and then Timashov, Brooks and a 7th for their 2nd and Dubinsky's contract.
Buf needs to get rid of Pominville's salary and they were in the market to trade Ristolainen for young forwards plus a D to replace him. So its basically Ristolainen for Gardiner, Brown, Sparks and Moore. Then Pominville and a 1st for Carrick and two 2nd's. 6th pick for Leivo. Leaf's may have to throw in potentially a conditional 4th which turns into a 3rd if Pominville plays more than 50 games with the leafs.

cap comparable is 6.75M based on what Johnny got from Flames a couple of years ago, but Nylander has a higher Ceiling and this is factoring in what he may command once potentially playing with JT with the leafs. Also JVR got 7M per year so I'd say its fair to assume Nylander would get something between 7-8M per year as Draisaitl got 8.5M from Oilers and Nylander is just below him in terms of Ceiling.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Y2J1399</b></div><div>Long term, you just lost Marner and Matthews to cap space.</div></div>
not really because leafs would free up a lot of capspace after this year as the following players are UFA: Hainsey (3 M), Pominville (4 M), Nash (3.5 M), McElhinney (0.85M) plus you have Hortons salary which can be put on LTIR for roughly (5.3M) giving the leafs a total of 17.8M in cap space based on this years salary cap. Not counting what Matthews and Marner are making currently which makes it 19.61M to get them both resigned (Matthews at 12M per, and Marner getting the same as Nylander). So this would mean that the leafs need to get rid of Dubinsky's 2.95M salary somehow (most likely add a pick and trade him for prospects) While filling out the 4th line with players under 1M. Once Marleau leaves a year after that the leafs will have enough cap space flexibility.

I think to acquire both Ristolainen and the 1st overall pick, I may have positioned the trade more in favour of the leafs. It may require another 1st round pick instead of an extra 2nd round pick. As well as possibly retaining half of Gardiner's Salary and also taking on one more bad contract from Buffalo

Quite frankly yes, because Paval Zacha hasn't lived up to his potential thus far. He was drafted 6th overall and JVR is from NJ so this trade makes sense on both sides. Zacha and a top 15 pick for JVR is very reasonable especially considering he can average 30 goals for the next say 4 - 5 years.

NOTE: It would be a three team trade between Toronto, Colorado and Washington. The 3rd Round pick that this shows going to Toronto from Washington would actually be conveyed to Colorado as part of that big trade. This does not allow for three team trades so I had to make due with what was available.
Basically...
COL:
- Bozak,
- VanRiemsdyk,
- Hyman,
- Carrick,
- 3rd Round Pick (Toronto's pick From Washington),
- Leivo,
- Johnsson,
- Marincin,
- Fehr.
TOR:
- Duchenne
- Johnson (1.0 Million Retained) ....Salary dump for colorado
- Zadorov
- Eller
- 3rd Round Pick
WSH:
- Wilson
- Lindberg
Feel free to tweak the trade by adjusting the picks moving or borderline prospects that are moving.
Iginla and White brought in for 4th line role/extra forward, toughness and right handed face off draws. Polak is brought back for cheaper as he is injured and will be out for the first few months of the season.

First off, no way montreal trades Alzner right after signing him. That would forever hurt their chances of getting future UFA's to sign there. Second no way in hell does Dallas trade their number 1 center for a number 4 d-man. Even if it is to get rid of Kari. Pacioretty + prospects and picks would have to go the other way to get Seguin out of Dallas.

I adjusted the Ducks trade by adding in Sparks and another 2nd round pick. Manson may be treasured by ducks but he will be expensive for them to resign while keeping their Defensive core together. Also added a trade with CBJ to help them free up over 2 million in cap space by trading away a number 5-6 d-man.
