Barrie is a liability defensively and most of his points are secondary assists so it kind of balances out . If Edmonton rejects that’s fine, it would just be a change of scenery type move.
In the comment you responded to, I noted that Barrie has a +3.43 GF% Rel, which means the Oilers are better at outscoring their competition when he's on the ice than when he's off.
His -0.2 GA/60 Rel tells me that Edmonton allows fewer goals when Barrie is on the ice too. So no, he's not a defensive liability.
Unlike Drouin.

In terms of the Edmonton goalie situation, you’re going to need a decent goalie like Allen if you want to win a round or two in the playoffs. The goalie market this Free Agency isn’t great and Edmonton is right against the cap so getting Allen makes sense. Smith is an aging third string goalie at this point with his play and injuries and Skinner isn’t good enough to be an NHL starter. Allen would make sense for Edmonton in terms of its an upgrade of what they have and the cost isn’t massive.
Allen has gone past the 1st round just once in his career, and that was 6 seasons ago. He's not going to lead any team anywhere in the playoffs.
Also, why the dig at Skinner? He's been better than Allen this season. Among goalies that have played at least 12 games, Skinner ranks 23 by GSAx/60 while Allen ranks 41st. The Oilers would be better of re-signing #39 Koskinen than trading for Allen, especially when you consider the assets you think he's worth.

It's funny, Skinner is younger than Carter Hart and has produced better results at the NHL level this season. Yet you discount him completely.
