There's an easy solution to this.

Either Dubas pays that first Francis will ask (which is justified after the Chiarot farce)

Or

Giordano gets traded elsewhere.

Veteran top-4 D-men have a huge value. 7th D and a low 2nd doesn't come even close to being enough - especially if you want them half retained.

Leafs went dumpster diving before and got Bunting, I wouldn't mind one of De Haan or Middleton

Good, don’t use your first. We’ve given away 4 of the past 5 (our own), we have to be able to ice a team with good pieces 3-4 years from now.

Better Dubas does that rather than give up a 1st for another Foligno.

Its actually been 3 of 5 or 4 idk

Or are you counting the Anaheim one back in 2016 to.

As if we look at the last 5

Foligno (We all loved it when it happened admit it then it went to UGH)
Muzzin
Marleau Dump (****ing Lou)
Drafted Sandin
Drafted Liligren
Drafted Matthews

And of those I have no ill will for the Marleau dump as Lou was braindead signing him for that long. Muzzin deal is honestly fine. Foligno everyone loved it then he got hurt and all the bad stuff happened and we put it in the "seemed like a good idea at the time"

But in general I agree with Dubas. Unless your getting someone with term or RFA status **** spending a 1st.

Another team can pay the price for him because he doesn’t really make the leafs much better

Whoops, yeah you’re right- I glanced at it too quickly. Still a lot of firsts for not Marleau and Foligno.

I’m not bashing Kyle Dubas, I quite like his drafts so far, but stating that we need to keep firsts to surround the big 4 with cheap high end talent. Can’t find Michael Buntings every year.

To me at this TDL if your spending a 1st look at Hagel thats really it (Like Tampa did with Goodrow and Coleman)

Everything else yeah you get get bargain deals.

De-Haan, Middleton, Miller, Soucy, etc.

And also go get Forsberg if Kallgren aint the guy to backup Campbell

I think if he spends a 1st do what Tampa did and find someone who is stupid good on a stupid cheap deal

Hagel is a candidate for that 1.5mill and 21 goals rn....

As I dont see anyone complaining if he does that cause who can say no to a 1.5mill 20 goal scorer for 2 more years....

In general per Serevalli many teams were looking at Giordano and going nah he aint worth a 1st. Does the Chiarot trade change that. Maybe

Like we know he has a 12 team NTC and has per FS said he wants to go to Toronto

Dubas can use that to his advantage but Francis has the right to try and squeeze every pick out of Gio.

Its a wait and see game rn.

Gio is old so he might not get a 1st. 3 months ago I said Chiarot wasn't worth a 1st but he'd get one. Leaf fans disagreed. He got even more than that. Crazy things happen at the trade deadline.

You're right. If Muzzin returns this isn't cap compliant. Then the other issue is having Giordano playing LHD. Leafs have three LHD....and none of them have been effective on the right.
Sitting Holl and having Sandin or Muzzin playing the right side should never be considered.

I feel there was a bidding war which made the price go up. With Gio's comments of apparently wanting to join us that can drive the price down as hes basically going I want to go there

Now he may get one but remember Hall went for a 2nd + 4th liner after Foligno went for a 1st. TDL is unpredictable

Maybe you take Sandin out. Not saying I would but last playoffs he had problems. And while hes been great Playoff hockey is a different ball game

Like they can go

Rielly-Lybushkin
Giordano-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl (3rd pair who cares)

But it all is based on how much hes gonna cost. But hey Middleton is making 725k has been stupid good this year and is

As long as the need around the league for such asset exceed the amount of players available, this seems pretty unlikely.

Chiarot proved that already.

Manson didn't. And there are several options. More than there are buyers. Chiarot was a bad trade.

I mean Helleson+2nd isn't that far from Smilanic+1st, because Helleson is that much above Smilanic in terms of value.

TOR should certain look for another options if they're not willing to pay the demanded price. That's how the market works.
