Bobcat’s Post Game Notes, Game 54

Jackets win, 4-3, over the New Jersey Devils.

-Looked kinda ugly from the start. Gavi takes a penalty super duper early (8 SECONDS) and Hischier puts the puck behind Elvis. Ugh.

-JAKE CHRISTIANSEN SCORES HIS FIRST CAREER NHL GOAL (AND POINT)!! Congrats, kid. Max Domi also scored his 300th career point with an assist on that goal.

-The Smoothest One-Timer in the Game(tm) rings it off the post, and El Capitan finishes the deed for a nice power-play goal. HERE COMES THE BOOOONE!

-When one point streak ends, another begins. Oliver Bjorkstrand has been on a roll as of late. That continues with a goal tonight.

-I think I’m gonna name my firstborn son Patrik now. That was an amazing move.

-Swear to god, Jake Voracek could not buy a goal if he had all the money in the world. Snake-bitten would be an understatement.

-Both of these teams were very very undisciplined. Lots of penalties on both sides. Thankfully our penalty kill is above average.

-Everyone’s favorite Latvian rockstar was doing a fine job in net. Two plays in particular where he ROBBED the Devils with a great save. That’s why we pay you 4 million dollars a year.

All in all, a very entertaining game.

My uncle played college hockey as a goalie, never made it higher due to some bad knee inuries, but I have his pads that he used in-game against guys like Zach Hyman. Since he was a goalie he was super involved with a whole bunch of good goalies, and so I have a whole bunch of autographs from that, dwayne rollosson being the best probably.

When i was like 8 I met rick vaive at an alumni game and rick asked me "Hey pal, can I ask you something?" im sitting there all starstruck just nodding, and he goes "Do you know what cows drink?" and i just mumbled "milk", and he goes "No, water!" He was a super nice guy, even tho I only talked with him for like two minutes.

Ya I’ve never met any NHL players, just Carlton. My dad met Landy though so that’s kind of how we got a signed jersey from him.

I've met Rick Vaive...'s son Justin. He plays for the local ECHL team. Dude's an absolute unit (6'6", 240 pounds) and probably would have made it farther than he has if he played defenseman (at least, my dad thinks he would).

I hope not. We aren't a Lehkonen away from contention, and the bottom 6 isn't an immediate need to me. Giving up that much for Lehkonen would just prove the organization has stuck their collective heads into the sand and aren't going to focus on the real issue of the team, the defense.

For some reason that’s our focus. Defense is number one, number two goalie, numbe three top six

Hindsight is 2020, but yeah kind of.

I’m ok with trading Siegenthaler, he would never have broken out here like he did in NJ due to only getting 3rd line minutes in DC (would have been jumped in the off-season by Fehervary and Orlov), and the pick we got for Siegenthaler helped us get Brent Johnson, who looks real solid.

I was against the Schultz contract from the time of signing, I would have preferred to sign a bridge LD for a year (Chara) and gone for a 3rd pairing guy (TVR). No arguments here, Schultz is bad.

Toews feels like something you are only able to do in hindsight, and he doesn’t make a lot of sense here long term. Fehervary was looking good (until Carlson started to rub off these last couple months), and Toews would have (at the time) only further clogged the LD side, which was already full and with no room for Marty, Alexeyev, and Johansen at the time he was available,

Tampa has singlehandedly destroyed the trade market, now guys like Crouse, Texier, Lehkonen, Hagel, Chiarot, etc have an ask that is allegedly a 1st+ and has made fans of certain teams think their players values are inflated too
