Description

Lapierre McM and Iorio shouldn't be traded. Lapierre looks amazing... its just the Q but i completely changed my mind after watching his game... he should be untouchable unless its something insane coming back.. Iorio will likely be NHL ready in 3 years but he should be able to play top 4 easily. He's basically the only thing we have worth while at RSD. McM imo needs more ice time to really show what he can do...i wouldn't trade any of these kids...esp for rentals. GO for cheap up grades and see what we can do when we are fully healthy .

The scenario where I'd personally do this trade is if Schultz is dealt half-retained somewhere else for a better pick than the pick teams would give up for Kulak.

They are doing me a favor? Kulak value is like a 4th round pick... Schultz value is about that. i thought i explained myself well... if they trade a RSD Petry Schultz would be able to fill in / could be signed cheap in the offseason. JFC you guys acted like i trade Schultz for Chychrun lol

Schultz could easily be that UFA they sign... by trading for him they would have his rights also... OR like SevenLeg said he might be able to be flipped for a better pick.

Schultz is an expensive pending UFA. He's not even playing better than Kulak right now. Why on earth would Montreal not just take a 4th instead.

Schultz can't replace Petry at this point in his career, he can replace Kulak. Come on now.

No your idea is just stupid. Shultz 'replacing' petry is laughable. Even if the habs can only get a 4th for Kulak that is still a 4th more than they have in your scenario at the end of the season.

There is nothing keeping Shultz in mtl beyond this year(and to be quite frank we dont want him he is a depth dman at this point)

We are taking on extra cap for no long term benefit. You would at minimum have to add a 3rd for the habs to even consider this offer.

Here is the caveat, Montreal and Hughes specifically have already said they will trade petry for the right deal BUT they would rather work things out to keep their top D man in town. With the way things have turned around in Montreal and the government finally easing restrictions. Petry seems as happy as ever again and his play has also picked up. I don't think he will be traded at all.

I guess it all depends on his wife and family - if they feel like they can return to Quebec, he might have a change of heart. I personally think he'll be gone by the start of next season but would love to see him stay!

If they trade for his rights and he's a pending UFA, MTL does not have any ability to match offers like if he was an RFA do they? I'm not sure how that process works.

No it just gives Montreal the exclusive right to negotiate until the week before FA when teams are allowed to talk to UFA'S. outside of that we have no rights.

Not saying Schultz is not more valuable than a 6th but the direction the habs are heading they'll take the pick any time

This is like trading a 4th for Schultz's rights. No incentive to do that.

The idea of Schultz as a temporary replacement for Petry is fine. There'd have to be an extension in place at minimum, but why would Schultz sign a cheap, short term deal with a rebuilding team?
