Friend, I know you despise Hertl with every ounce of your soul, but do try to not act like nobody's ever paid that for a rental. The trade between the Sharks and the Sens for EK65 certainly would qualify as involving a blue chip prospect and a first round pick.
I actually really like hertl. I think he’s an awesome player. I really hate blind, willful stupidity though.
Sharks fans aren’t this dumb, they know the ask is super unreasonable. Anyway though:
Karlsson was a pretty different situation. Yes, technically a rental, but done in the off-season when there are way more teams that can come to play. Second, this is a guy who some thought was the best d man in the national hockey league. This is a guy who right before he was traded won multiple Norris trophy’s, and was top 10 in the hart voting three consecutive seasons. The only vote that Hertl has ever gotten was for the lady byng. Not so much as a fifth place selke vote.
Karlsson was elite, Hertl is not. If you can give me one instance of an in-season rental roughly of Hertl’s capabilities getting a 1st and a premium prospect, I’m all ears.
You’re not going to be able to though.
