Colorado are not moving Newhook. Is contract, is remaining year of team control and is oustanding play make him a no brainer for Sakic to keep.

You’re high. COL 1) wouldn’t trade Newhook for Bertuzzi straight up. 2) Bertuzzi’s name stance on vaccination wouldn’t exactly be warmly welcomed in COL. 3) Newhook is going to be significantly better than Bertuzzi.

If Bertuzzi were to play all 82 games this year, he'd be on pace for 46 goals at the moment. His return would be very high (Top prospect and a 1st) based on his goal scoring and his very low cap hit for this year and next. His Vax status wouldn't impact colorado that much either as only one Canadian team is in the division and it's very unlikely there will be Canadian teams making big noise in the playoffs for Colorado to worry about his vax status being a problem.

Bad jokes aside though, Newhook is simply not available unless you want to talk Larkin (i.e. a youngish C on a decent to good contract).

I'm not high. I recognize that guys who are in their prime, on pace for 40 goals and have cap hits less than 5 million that are also not a pending UFA are worth a top prospect like Newhook.

Every team has young players/prospects that are close to untouchable, and Newhook is one of them. If Bertuzzi was a C, under contract for longer, and also not a Bertuzzi then there would be a conversation to be had. That's not the circumstance though.

Edit: if it's a young C you're after, then maybe try a trade with a team that's deeper at C like LA. Might be a better fit than one that is likely to lose their 2C to free agency after the year. Colorado is not only high on Newhook, but they also need him from an organizational standpoint.

If McDavids last name was Bertuzzi, I doubt Colorado would care and would sign him in a heartbeat. Or if the next slam dunk generational superstar just by coincidence even had the name Todd Bertuzzi and Colorado had 1st overall pick. They'd take him. What you meant to say was there's zero chance Colorado EVER signs the recently retired Todd Bertuzzi...Likewise Detroit would never have signed Claude Lemieux. But Detroit would sign Brendan Lemieux if it made sense for them. But they actually wouldn't sign him just because he plays on the wrong side of the edge too often and takes a lot of dumb penalties that don't often help the team. Not a Detroit type player.

The issue is your logic is sound and I agree Bertuzzi is worth a ton, but your assessment of Newhook is off. Newhook is also worth a ton. He's not just a prospect anymore, he's a legit NHL talent. If I'm Sakic I'm not sure I'd do Newhook for Bertuzzi 1 for 1, not to mention Newhook is a centre. To add on Colorado's side is just throwing gas on the fire
