Description
traded in the offseason FOR SURE:
- Barrie
- Kassian

Forward group seems good enough in this scheme and the depth guys are fine as long as Shore is no longer considered an option cause he and sceviour are brutal.

Realistically, The Dcore is stuck as it is for the most part. Kulack is a sound DFD when played as a 3rd pair dman on an actual NHL quality roster. Adds some much need physicality. Adding russell is just to make sure the money works for the oilers and the habs still have a roster player for ROS. Its a cap savings for the habs regardless and they get draft capital for guy that most likely doesn't re-sign anyways.

The goaltending is difficult as any realistic option isn't sexy. Long-Term Options won't be available till the offseason so need to find something that can give the Oilers the best play for its price tag. That to me is Holtby. Dallas most likely will be out of it by the TDL and he would be a nice addition that is cost-effective in terms of Cap Hit and Trade Pieces. Flower would be FAR too costly and the guys available that have an extra yr are a bit too risky for my liking (if anything they'd be fine secondary options if the initial LT options don't pan out). I think getting holtby will help gauge exactly where this team is for the remainder of the year and give one more offseason to find the faults of this team and address them with high-value system assets (picks, prospects). After that, the roster (whatever it may be) will be set in stone for a while.

Some trade pieces to consider moving in the offseason to help bolster the roster in key areas:
- Yamo rights (RFA)
- Foegele
- 1st Rd Pick (2022 & 2023)
- Bourgeault
- Broberg
- One of.... Petrov, Tullio, Savoie, or Beryozkin
-Samorukov
- Keith (on his final yr and having a good szn so far so Maybe moveable?)

I don’t think its as simple as “trading in the off season, for sure,” when it comes to Barrie and kassian. No one wants them.

Ya history suggests teams don’t generally show interest in rd with proven track record of highly productive play. Haha ya right

Cmon pal. Everyone knows he stinks. There’s a reason every other edmonton post is trying to find a way to get rid of him. He’s such a liability a good team can’t put him on the ice.

Barrie's start to the year was abysmal but has been decent after that rough stretch. On the right team, he'd be an asset. In Edmonton, non of the LHD (or the RHD for that matter) are solid defensively except for Kris Russell (who's in and out of the line-up). Toronto did the same thing by playing him with other offensively minded dmen. If you utilize him similar to how Washington/Pittsburgh did in Justin Schultz' post Oiler days, he would be a positive asset.

His only viable utilization in my opinion is a third pair, very sheltered D that gets the lions share of PP time. I’m talking like 8 minutes even strength, 4+ pp per night. That shouldn’t cost 4.5

So to get the most of out of a guy who needs puck touch’s to be effective is to diminish his ice time. You just make less sense with each comment maybe take a few days break or stick to players you actually follow and know.

…..ya, so you put him out in the situations where he’s going to get the puck the most. Powerplay. This isn’t rocket science.

The problem with, “the more he touches the puck,” argument is also that the more he’s on the ice, the more goals his team gives up, and the more his team loses.

Again, not rocket science. Ever wonder why most oilers ACGMs have him being moved?

if they can get an actual roster dman and use him to move money they for sure will. The guy is the 8th best dman on the team on a good day. Kulack will be a big upgrade for the 3rd pair for cheap

Kassian has not much value. He's a cap dump to a team needing an NHL contract. Barrie does have value due to his track record as being a solid OFD that can QB a powerplay that desperately needs a powerplay QB. Hence I picked Seattle as the moving spot as that is the most likely destination since they are lacking some offence and mobility on the backend. Barrie is good on a powerplay and with some strong defensive dmen already in Seattle he can be sheltered on the defensive side being paired with either larsson or oleksiak. He can nicely fit on the 2nd pair there which will be best for barrie as limited ice time doesn't do him well.

Why trade a vet that everyone probably likes? Why trade the guy with the silver shin pads? You have enough cap space here to keep him so just keep him.

because money needs to be moved and at the end of the day, GM's should be making moves based on merit on the ice and their ability to play. Russel isn't an NHL dman anymore and kulack is a solid defensive presence that the oiler desperately need on the blueline

Any struggling powerplay looking for a t4RHD on the cheap that has a good track record as a PP QB will be interested in Barrie. He excels playing a certain role and in edmonton that role is already filled by bouchard so he is on an island. A RHD PP quarterback will always have value in this league

The Oilers would have $4.5M of cap space left with what you have here!.. lol

Also I'm not sure Kulak is really a defensive dman, pretty sure he's more of an offensive/mobile dman, not saying he couldn't help the Oilers but not sure he's really a defense first type of dman, could probably get him for a 3rd or 4th round pick. The Habs won't want to take back Russell either.

Da Haan is who the Oilers should target.

You got anything to back up this statement?

Cause his 59.26 GF% is telling me otherwise.

Cause they need someone that can man the powerplay and help generate offence from the blue line. Cant be completely shutdown and the Iles are a good example of that
