This would be a very EDM thing to do and I don't mean that in a good way lol.

EDM's next moves need to be very calculated. Clearly goaltending is a huge weakness, so if they're going to move any major assets it should be for something better than this.

I agree, but depends how much cap space they have. You arent gonna find a goalie available that is better than Allen with a better contract. But Oilers need to stop wasting McDavid and Draisaitl.

I’d rather a 2nd round over Lavoie but other than that, sure.
I don’t like Lavoie, I’ve seen him a dozen times in Halifax. I don’t think he’s an impactful player by any means at the NHL level. I hate this comparison because it appears lazy since both agreed are from Quebec, but he gives me Louis Leblanc vibes. He has this deer in the headlights look sometimes. Talented player for sure, and I think that helped in juniors but I don’t think it’s enough at the NHL

Totally agree and sometimes you have to take advantage of the best options available, but sometimes you have to consider if no move is better. I personally haven't looked around at the goalie situations, so I'm shooting from the hip a bit, but is a 1st worth 1.5 seasons of Jake Allen or is it better to roll the dice for this season and re-evaluate in the off-season?

Because he is not a rental, has a super good contract, and lost in all this is Lehkonen who is a defensive specialist and playoff performer.

Allen is certainly not worth a 1st, but it also depends on what the goalie market looks like by the deadline. Supply/Demand, but I agree that in a bubble none of that is worth a 1st.

Depends what kinda leash the GM feels he has i guess.

I agree. If they do decide to go out and improve their goaltending, I would assume that they could shed salary to do so. Spitballing here, but a team like Chicago may be selling and Fleury would be an outstanding option: I would assume that they would accept Koskinen's contract and a first for Fleury. That's just my opinion though. There are going to be a few other names out there, too. Please don't hate. smile

Personally I'd look to Seattle. I still can't figure out why they selected both Grub and Driedger, but maybe a first for Driedger if he's available?

Not hating at all. Their situation needs to be handled carefully and IMO they're better off not making a move than wasting more assets.

I don't hate it. Sucks to trade Lehky, but it's probably fair value. I will say I'd take a C or RHD over this offer though.

Good trade for Edmonton, even though some fans will argue against it. You're getting both players for at least next year, so they aren't pure rentals, and improving without moving a high end prospect.

He’s also a back up goaltender.

Allen stat sheet is obviously not good but considering he's playing with an AHL team seeing he still has a better sv% than Koskinen is quite encouraging. For those watching games they'll know that Allen's good but he's alone out there. To snatch a 1st I think we'll have to retain on Allen so we can really give that 'I'm getting the best bang for the buck' impression to other GMs, a starting goalie paid 1.4M$ is a steal and that would tip the scale. As the other guy said it's all coming down to scarcity, if there's only 1 or 2 guys on the market well prices are going up and like it or not someone will pay.
Let's see the other options;
-Drieger M-NTC
-Grubauer NTC
- UPL (If Buff tears it down to the ground)
- Fleury M-NTC
- Varlamov M-NTC
-Halak NMC
- Hart (If Philly tears it down to the ground)

It'll be interesting to see and Lehkonen could also be retained in a forgotten year in Montreal.

Behind Carey Price, and has played more games than Carey Price since getting to Montreal.

Because Carey price has kinda stunk the last few years, with the exception of a few weeks in the playoffs

Was that english?

Seems like he’s had a couple really good years, and then been average to bad the rest of his career. When it comes to goalies, big sample size numbers tend to be pretty straight forward.
