Boston makes their C depth even worse while adding another bad LHD on a bad contract? Sign them up lol.

The way I see it: There are a lot of quality Centers that will be UFA this offseason for BOS to choose from. Matheson has shown in PIT that if the coaching staff reigns him in, he can be serviceable. Still a bad contract? Absolutely. But BOS loses a bad contract and only have Matheson for 4 more years vs Coyle's 5.

Coyle is more favorable piece to BOS. Not to mention the roots and connection he has with the city and chemistry with linemates. They don't want Matheson.

For starters, at 28 years old I'm pretty sure he is going to want more than just a 1 year deal. But even tho he doesn't have a crazy high shooting % I would caution giving him that much money. Plenty of one hit wonders to look back on: Setoguchi, Cheechoo, Clarkson, Leino

I agree PIT should try to keep him but with term and dollars that make sense.

ERod has come out of nowhere and credit to him for sure! I'd be very careful extending him based on 1 year's performance. He's 28 years old. It's not like he's a young guy.

All analytical data and the eye test prove that ERod is the real deal and has, by some stroke of witchcraft, changed his game at 28 years old to be an elite offensive threat. But, since he is human and all of this is a business, he must do a 1-year "prove that you're the real deal" contract at 1 x $4M. I.e. he makes bank for a year, keeps up the production, and is given a blank check in UFA the following offseason.

This is a business. His contract is terrible and no doubt BOS is looking to trade him away at any opportunity. There are really good centers BOS can nab in UFA. PIT would hypothetically want Coyle to see if it can spark his old teammate Zucker.

He must? Sure, as a fans perspective. But I can guarantee that the professional athlete at 28 years old and his agent will see a career year and with an Estimated Career Earnings : $4,926,235, will be looking to cash in. Either with PIT or some other team.

Not bad for Edmonton actually.

Boston isn't doing that, they're already thin at center, they sure miss Krejci.

How is Yamamoto better then Kapanen? Outside of a 20ish game stretch Yamamoto hasn't done much, Kapanen has been more consistent though he is older, idk, think I'd do this if I was in Holland's chair depending on what Kapanen's new deal looked like.

Yeah I was wrong with this one, I thought Yamamoto was putting way more points in EDM and Kapanen is a way better 2 way player than KY

Their contracts both expire in 2025-26.

Coyle is healthy, slotted in as 3C and producing with 8G-8A-16P. No matter the contract Boston is not looking to trade him away at any opportunity and definitely not for MM, hypothetically speaking of course.

Kapanen is a "way better 2 way player" than Yamamoto? You don't watch the Oilers much, huh?

Sure, bud. That's why he has among the lowest defensive zone starts on his team consistently and has the lowest PK TOI on the Pens, right? Because he's so great defensively.

Yup. Hands down.

Idk man, Kapanen is way more consistent, you're moving down a round but getting the better player plus a 5th, seems like a decent move for the Oilers though they've got other problems, no idea where their 1st will end up either.

Now take cap constraints into account... why would Edmonton do this? It doesn't make a lot of sense for them. Also, Kapanen doesn't PK and gets sheltered with zone starts, Yamamoto is far more versatile.

Edmonton needs production and Kapanen does that more consistently then Yamamoto, I get the cap constraints but if they could make it fit then it's probably worth it, guess Holloway could be ready, idk, don't see it as the worst move for the Oilers.

Really? The Oilers have a bunch of larger holes and you'd spend their one of their biggest trade chips on a middle-6 winger whom they can't afford?

They might be able to afford Kapanen and its not like they're only getting Kap in this proposal.
