The Jets aren't going to give up the better player with term for a bad rental they have no use for.

Why would the Leafs be trading for Jones? They have 2 healthy goalies and 3rd/4th stringers who might be better than Jones too.

Age is irrelevant with rental's. Especially cheap ones

The Leafs have no reason to take on another goaltender some fans hate for Holl aside. People may have an irrational hate for Holl but that doesn't mean they are going to take on a goaltender they don't need to trade him.

Caps will take that and run. Kovalchuk, Chara, Lundqvist (even though he never played) and Giroux all being Caps in about a year and a half would be absolutely ridiculous.

DeMelo is not better than Risto. Risto is a popular guy to hate on. He obviously hasn't lived up to an 8th overall pick but his years in Buffalo he was expected to be minutes leader on a horrible team put any current Jets Dman on those teams and wonder how they would have compared. Jets actually have a problem with Dman on term they will need to have young guys like Heinola and Samberg with low cap hits to get into line up next year so someone with term has to get traded because they need to resign RFA's Dubois, Vesalainen, Gustafsson, Harkins, Comrie, and either sign or replace UFA's Copp and Stastny. Maybe getting a forward with term is a better option for the Jets but they are not going to get a forward with term and good contract for DeMelo or Stanley (another player they may need because of low cap hit). Dillon and Pionk are on good contract and Jets won't trade them and no team is trading for Schmidt or Morrissey's contracts. So moving DeMelo for better rental player and freeing up 3 million of cap space for next year isn't a terrible idea.

Jones may not be the goalie they need but they do need a goalie Mrazek, Holl and Hutch are not reliable backups. Mrazek was propped up by Carolina's excellent team defense if he was that good they would have resigned him instead of signing ex-Leaf Andersson.

They have 4 goaltenders and Woll has proven he can be a good backup. They aren't going to trade to get a guy who has been average at best other than his rookie season.

The move isn't a hate on for Holl. The Leafs need to clear cap to resign Campbell next year. Risto and Holl are the same guy (I rank Risto a little higher). But Risto is a UFA after this year. Signing Mrazek to a 3 year deal was a mistake (I've said this since the offseason). Jones is a viable back up, and once again, is a UFA after this year. Leafs get almost 6mil in cap space with this move.

If the Jets move Demelo, it will be after the season to clear cap space, so he would be moved for a pick and/or prospect. You may not like hearing it, after the Flyers spent so much to acquire Ristolainen, but Demelo is undoubtedly better than Ristolainen at a defenseman's number one priority, playing defense.

As it stands now, it doesn't do anything for the Jets this season to downgrade to Ristolainen for the rest of the season.

I'm a Jets season ticket holder and know exactly how good DeMelo is and its not a downgrade, the Jets are not going anywhere when DeMelo and Stanley as their number one PK pairing. DeMelo leads all Jets in Ice time short handed and the opposition score at a 30% clip on PP that's 3rd worst in the NHL and that's with one of the best goalies in the league. I really don't care what the Flyers gave up for Risto if I did I'd be asking for more in the trade. You can totally disagree with either the timing of the trade or moving DeMelo for a forward or even a pick but he is definitely not a better player than Risto. I bet Chevy is wishing he left DeMelo unprotected in the expansion draft and still had Appleton.

Sorry, I thought you were worried about offense coming from the defense. If you're only worried about the defense and PK then for sure the Jets don't want anything to to with Ristolainen as he is probably one of the 10 worst defensive defensemen in the league.
