Insanely hard pass on that Colorado trade. Yuck. Also, zero interest in Petry.

Boohoo, Petry trade is a great trade.

Petry is old, breaking down and overpaid... and is a RD, which we have zero need for.

Zadina was a 6OA pick, is only 22 and hasn't even CLOSE to hit his potential yet and Compher is a 3rd liner at best.

You're either trolling or really have a bad grasp of value.

You realise that receiving a second for a player who still has importance, both on and off the ice. There's 12 million in cap value, by the time the RFA's roll around, the total cap hit would increase, as well as Petry being on a contract year. Buying him out on the last season opens 2 million more if you want to. More importantly, the d-core is solidified for the next 3-4 seasons. Old veterans is what you want to have as your bottom pairing d-men.
You definitely have a bias thinking that Zadina is galaxies ahead of Compher. Maybe he's better, but he's going to be stuck in the bottom six, when Detroit could really do with a second line centre. I've watched quite a bit of Colorado games, (god I hate their pbp announcer), and know the talent Compher has.

Compher too good to be on Colorado's third line? I don't think he should be playing above the third line ironically. Compher doesn't produce enough offense to be a regular top six option, he's one of Colorado's few overpaid players besides Erik Johnson

Last thing Detroit does is trade a 22 year old for a ufa to be. I like petry but too expensive and costly to be a 3rd pair guy here.

Zadina will play on the second line where you have Namestnikov right now.

I don't mind the addition of compher but not giving up Zadina for him.

I would take Martinez all day, he's had a tough go this year with injuries.

Petry I'm meh about, I think he could actually be a good partner for Edvinsson, but that would require one of our guys to play on their off side or be traded.

This AGM aside, what do you guys think of Petry for being a partner for Edvinsson? Like I think he could really benefit from a partner like him. It would just require one of our guys playing their off side or being traded.

I like Compher, but there’s no way I’d pay Zadina+ for him. If Vegas was willing to do that Martinez trade, I’d accept that, it’s low term and Martinez is still a good player right now. The idea of getting Petry isn’t horrible, but with how much term he has left on that high cap hit I’d want something back for taking him. It’s highly possible he doesn’t bounce back.

I think Petry could be a good veteran to partner with Edvinsson, but I have a feeling Edvinsson will outgrow him in role pretty quickly. Here’s how I see the lines shaking out in this situation, assuming Petry can at least play better than he’s doing now for the first year.

Lines first year with Edvinsson and Petry:
Hronek - Seider
Edvinsson - Petry
UFA - Lindstrom

Lines second year with Edvinsson and Petry:
Edvinsson - Seider
Lindstrom - Hronek
Prospect - Petry

Lines third year with Edvinsson and Petry:
Edvinsson - Seider
Prospect - Hronek
Petry - Lindstrom

I just don’t know if paying him $6.25mil until he’s 37 is a good idea, especially considering his recent decline. I’d look for another option, but Petry could be a decent fit if retention is on the table.

MTL laughs at that offer for Petry. Having a bad season yes but that doesn't dictate that he will be a cap dump moving forward. Every player in MTL is playing like crap right now, doesn't mean they actually are crap.

So both Detroit and Montreal fans dislike the Petry trade.

Could buy his last year out. It's not awful but really if you look that far ahead of we continue to build through the draft it shouldn't be an issue to afford him.

Sure Petry is certainly playing like a cap dump right now, but what on earth would motivate Montréal to do this? Our RHD is absolutely brutal, so we have to hope that Petry can at least bounce back a bit or else we’ll be bad again next year. Plus the habs don’t need the cap space, so there’s no need to trade him now.

It goes both ways. Detroit has Seider, Hronek, Lindstrom as RHD so no need to get older and hope for a bounce back.

So he looks great but im not convinced that edvinsson makes the jump next season. Yeah putting him next to a vet is ideal but I think seider hronek lindstrom is the right side for the next few years.

I’d agree, some will point to Seider making the jump in his D+3 but he was also much more developed physically. In this case he’s got a larger frame and it would be his D+2 season.
