Value is not close at all. Their is no way they do that not even close. On top of the fact that he is probably the least available player on the team meaning you would have to overpay he is still worth way more than that

I don't think Montréal does that. Plus they can't. That 1st is already part of a consider pick. Even if they could trade it they wouldn't. Because it is looking like a top 5 pick

Aight then give the devils Lafreniere (who has performed worse than Hughes in his career) for a first, second, third, and two B+ player/prospect. Obviously ur answer is no. Think before putting this out

Way too much for Jack Hughes. Either give them Chytil, 2nd and 3rd or Kravtsov and 1st. But I doubt Devils would move him this year, maybe next year since they have Mercer now and his playing time may get cut.

Horrifying Estimation. Former #1 pick who has played quite well on a developing team, he's going to command way more than your estimations of a 2C, 2nd, and 3rd, or a failed prospect and a 1st. Hughes would command the same value of Eichel given his age, team friendly contract, and overall ability.

Hughes has never played a full NHL season nor ever put up more than 31 points. He was a first overall pick who has done nothing but skate around in circles to avoid being hit.

Edmonton traded Yakupov for a lower prospect and a 3rd round pick after four seasons. Which is why I think Devils may do the same with Hughes. Also they have Mercer now, so they don't have to play Hughes in important minutes.

What? Of course he hasn't played a full season, since, ya'know, there was two shortened seasons? Mercer is not on the Level of Hughes, and Hughes played quite well in the little we saw him this year. He put up 31 points in his second year, in a shortened season, on an uncompetitive team, in the hardest division in hockey. He's a fast, explosive player that you see getting into the play every time he's on the ice. I don't know where the hell you get the "avoiding hits" part but that's insane. To compare Hughes to Yakupov is like comparing Apples to oranges. They are nowhere near each other in value, and to say that is mental.

We are not moving Hughes OR Mercer
Waited years for center depth! Along with Nico it will go on for years. Worst case Mercer moves up to play with Hughes as a winger.
Go worry about Kravstov, we will be fine!

How much have you watched Hughes play? He skates fast, but is always on the perimeter. He never goes the hard way, into traffic, or toward net. If he does, he gets easily knocked off the puck, he loses possession and the play is over. This is why his corsi/possession numbers are so high (and scoring so low). He is just doing circles, never advancing toward the net.

The Devils have now been doing a lot better without Hughes in the lineup. That is not a fluke. Mercer actually goes hard to the net and is fearless. If it were Hughes, many of those plays would end up in an infinite loop upon Jack's stick. Mercer may give up possession at times, but in the end, it produces more total offense.

People were amazed by Yakupov's skill as well, but it didn't achieve results. It took a while for people to figure it out (because he looked flashy). Devils would be smart in getting out while they still can get useful return.

Lastly, nix the "insane" and "mental" stuff. We can just stick to hockey.

Mercer has looked good, and to me, a lot better than Hughes.

But they will need some size up the middle. No one wants an NHL that allows all of these little guys to roam free unchecked.

1. I have watched him play, and at best your are cherry-picking plays. He’s drives towards the net and he has quite the scoring touch. If he can skate in circles around the net, and thus become open for a shot in front, then I’d be all for that. Mercer isn’t a fair comparison as we haven’t seen Hughes much of the year and therefore it’s completely unrealistic to say that he must produce more offense. Had Hughes been playing the whole season, with what we saw at the start of the year, he would have more of a role and more offense than Mercer.

2. Again, the devils played two games with him and he had the OT winner in one of them, so I assume you must be talking about last year. If you are, that comparison is wild, as the Devils not only have their young core a year older and more developed, but added huge pieces to succeed, such as Dougie Hamilton and Bernier, so it is expected for them to play better.

The Yakupov comparison is so horrible I don’t even know where to begin. Nothing of Hughes play is anything like Yakupov, and all you’ve ever cited is that he was “flashy”. Hughes has steadily improved his point totals and overall play and showed much promise with Kuokkanen and Sharangovich last year.

I ask you this, if you think he is indeed a bust, why send him to NYR, your favorite team? The rangers are historically awful at player development, so why send him there? Unless you actually think he is better than you say, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to trade for him.
