Yes but it should also be educational to Leaf fans that always defend the Tavares signing, Tavares is worth the money but the money should have been allocated elsewhere

The evidence is in his past signings and trades

No it’s not. That was for the NYI. The leafs and the NYI are not the same team, there’s no way to tell what he would’ve done. I don’t mind guessing and making a prediction but don’t say this is what he would’ve done because you cannot know that.

Lou thinks that a team should be strongest at center, that's why he was willing to overpay Pageau slightly so he can play all aspects of the game. You need a true top D pair that can play major mins, the money from Tavares signing would of went to a guy like Pietrangelo and assist in signing the Big 3 RFAs
Lou had confidence in Anderson that is why he trade for him and signed him long term.
The backup has to play 30-40 games as capable veteran.
Kadri has shown playing with Avs that he is a capable number 2 center.
Parise is a Lou guy.
Komarov can play center if someone goes down and Lou likes his PK ability and Forechecking

Exactly.

So, one thing is for sure. Babcock would still be coach. So I highly doubt Holl is still here. It's pretty well common knowledge that Derek Ryan was plan B behind Tavares that summer, doubtful that plan would have changed. Derek Ryan on board means Babcock creates a checking line in 2018/19. This likely solidifies Connor Brown's place on the team long-term. Lou wouldn't admit to a mistake so soon, so Zaitsev is still on the roster. Marleau would have finished out his contract, so that requires a major twist to summer 2019.
Tavares not on board, slows down the rebuild, so it's highly unlikely that Muzzin is acquired at that deadline. Especially considering how Babcock felt about the trade as soon as it happened (whining that they didn't get a RHD).

Then this sets off a chain reaction that makes the team look 75% different then what you've got here.

Another guarantee, Bunting isn't on the team, he is here for Dubas/Keefe.

This is hard to predict. If it was Lou that is the GM since 2018, the roster wouldn’t look like this. Know knows if Lou would’ve traded for and signed Jake Muzzin, Jason Spezza, Wayne Simmonds, Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Leo Komarov, Zach Parise, Alex Pietrangelo, Jaroslav Halak, Zach Hyman, or did the Kadri trade. All the drafting would be different too. Nobody knows what he would do. You can say you do, and he probably would’ve done this, and that, but in the end, we don’t know.

With the Marleau/Zaitsev contracts still around (doubt Lou gets rid of those) I would pretty well guarantee Nylander would be dealt in order to afford Matthews/Marner.

Nylander's holdout was term not $$. He knew if he was bridged, he'd be the first of the big 4 out the door. I doubt Lou backs down (he doesn't give RFAs long term deals too often if he knows cap trouble is ahead). Nylander settles for a bridge, and he's gone around the draft of 2019, in a Devon Toews type move.

Again, it's 100% impossible to predict what this team looks like if it's still Lou (and Babs) at the helm.

Well of course they are not the same team. The islanders can at least get past the first round and make some noise in the playoffs. When was the last time the leafs even made it past the first round? 2004, when the flyers knocked the leafs out in the second round. The last time the leafs made the conference finals? 2002, when the Hurricanes knocked them in the conference finals. The isles have made back to back conference finals appearances. The leafs may be better in the regular season, but they can’t perform in the playoffs.

Probably if Lou was still in charged Babcock will still be behind the bench and he would never play Justin Holl.

everyone always brings up "what lou what have done" which is a hypothetical but never bring up what he actually did when lets face it was absolutely nothing,

love how muzzin is there when dubas is the one who got him too

people think because of the isles success (which is mainly trotz) that lou was doing the saem stuff here but he wasnt

Ok? I was talking about how the islanders aren’t the leafs. What does the leafs playoff win droughts have to do with anything? They physically aren’t the same team, so you can’t look back on the trades he made there and say they’d happen here.

Lou wouldn't be have a team with an unworkable 20 man roster.
