Accepting a trade that wild fans hate on behalf of the Ottawa Senators

  1. Myers, Tyler (3 000 000 $ retained)
  2. Choix de 3e ronde en 2022 (WPG)
  3. Choix de 1e ronde en 2023 (VAN)
  4. Choix de 4e ronde en 2023 (VAN)
Détails additionnels:
This trade solves a number of problems for Ottawa, of which I'll name four:

1. We get to the cap floor if we can't sign Brady Tkachuk.

2. We get a Top 10 pick for the 2023 draft.

3. We bolster the right side of our defence and if you'd rather have Josh Brown instead of Tyler Myers on the right side, you're being dishonest.

4. Myers' cap hit is only 3 million because Vancouver is retaining half of his salary.

Idea proposed by canucksdownunder

VAN
  1. Tychonick, Jonathan [Liste de réserve]
Détails additionnels:
Tychonick was drafted 5 spots ahead of Calen Addison, so this is fair.

There is simply no possible way the Canucks would do this. 3 picks AND 3 million of dead cap? What a joke

Thank you very much "canucksdownunder"!

Ottawa takes this, 3 picks and a decent player at decent value, thanks

And Tychonick is not even a top-30 Sens prospect, not even a top-40 U-25 player lol

A better question is why the Minnesota Wild would not do this.

Please see the post by canucksdownunder for more details.

Parise/Suter dead cap. They have better RD already on the team. A glaring hole at center. Need to re-sign Fiala, Greenway, and Kahkonen next offseason. Myers isn't anything close to a need for the Wild. $5.25m for a 3rd pair is s luxury they can't afford.

1. You're allowed to be 10% over the salary cap during the offseason.

2. Myers at 3 million per year might not be a need for the Wild, but a likely Top 10 pick for 2023 certainly is.

Biggest reason why any team should accept a trade like this.

3. After Myers is acquired, Minnesota would only need to shed less than a million in cap before October 12th.

As shown by all the trades that are published on Capfriendly everyday, it can be done with one phone call.

Things have already been said yet here goes.

1 - myers at 3mil has positive value.

2 - addison is way better than tychonick. You probably wouldnt do a ben mirageas for drake batherson swap even though mirageas was drafted 44 spots before batherson was. This is very flawed logic on your part.

3 - the pick is likely in the 20s. I have no idea where youre getting this idea that theyll be bad from. They dont have a bad cap situation this upcoming offseason and wont have to really move anyone important. The pacific is really weak and theres no reason to think it will get significantly better. The nucks have as good a team as anyone in that division (aside from vegas of course).

4 - instead of saying this is what canucksdownunder would do why dont you tag @canucksdownunder and let him speak for himself.

1. I'm not denying Myers at 3 million has positive value.

Some fans of the Minnesota Wild appear to be denying that.

2. What would be a better prospect on the Ottawa Senators that is comparable to Addison, in your opinion?

3. The pick is likely in the Top 10 for 2023.

This is where Vancouver's 1st round pick ended up in every year since Jim Benning became the Canucks' GM:

2014 -- 6th overall

2015 -- 23rd overall

2016 -- 5th overall

2017 -- 5th overall

2018 -- 7th overall

2019 -- 10th overall

2020 -- 20th overall

2021 -- 9th overall

In other words, Vancouver drafts in the Top 10 of the first round almost every year.

4. @canucksdownunder has already spoken for himself by posting "sydney"

The link is in the description.

Im gonna work backwards here.

4 - you have no idea what canucksdownunder thinks about this trade. I could take 1 of your trades and make my own comparison and say that you think something that you dont. You cant speak for him here bc you dont know what he thinks here. Maybe he thinks addison is the next cale makar who knows.

3 - just bc theyve drafted there in the past doesnt mean they will in the future. And who said benning will still be there. If i had to bet, if they end up with another top 10 pick (which is where you think theyll draft) in 2022 benning is out.
But either way even if hes still there instead of telling me they will bc they have in the past give me a real reason that they will be bad. Demko looks like the real deal, miller-petey-boeser is a really good 1st line. They added a key player in dickinson as a 2-way 3C. Their D is still a little weak but theyve upgraded it. We will see how OEL does this year. The pacific in 22-23 i envision being something like

Ottawa comparable’s, JBD, Thomson, Brannstrom. I’d say Addison is closer to Brannstrom than JBD or Thomson.

4. What i see from canucksdownunder is someone who would pay Tyler Myers @ 50% retained salary + Vancouver's 1st for 2023 with no lottery protection + a 3rd + a 4th ...

For Addison.

If that's not an overpay on Addison, I don't know what is.

3. Vancouver being 2nd in the Pacific is quite the hot take smile

2. I still accept the trade if its Grieg going to Vancouver instead of Tychonick.

4 - its an overpay for addison i dont think anybody disagrees, my point was you dont know if he would accept the OTT trade.

3 - no my hot take with vancouver is that theyll be 2nd in the division this year (which i do think will happen but yes thats a hot take). Next year i kind of think its a given that theyll make the playoffs (and i think only 3 from the pacific). Having them ahead of a calgary team that cant seem to get it together or a very young la team isnt a big surprise.

2 - fair enough.

4. He'd accept the Ottawa trade if Ottawa has a prospect of the same value as Addison.

Which might be Grieg.

3. We'll see what happens to the Canucks.

The last few years with Jim Benning as GM suggests it's going to be bumpy ride frown

Well, the trade idea in this post came from him.

And I dedicate this post to him.

With that said, I don't think the Canucks should be making trades like this.

It's not in their best interests, to say the least smile
