Quoting: RaZZe
Torn apart... what?
And yeah, I figured it is the retention, which is too much. That package does not warrant that much retention. Without any retention, this is a blatant overpay, however. I do know this is not an offer the Sabres would accept, never have I ever said it. The first three comments are just hilarious overreactions, though
Yeah bro, as a neutral fan here that is a classic quantity for quality deal and no team is going to retain salary for 5 years, nevermind that you're asking them to do it to get Eichel to be a $6.1M player and probably the best value contract in the league.
Guhle and the 3 - 1sts probably satisfies the asking price but Kulak, Lehk, 2nd & 3rd doesn't get you $3.9 retained for 5 years... so the initial premise of the trade falls apart because you won't be able to get a better player for $6.1M, nevermind a better C.
Habs are in a real tough spot here from where I sit. Let a team swoop in and take your lunch money or sign a really rich contract that with the qualifying offers will walk the player right to UFA. Plus if they match that puts Suzuki and then Caulfield at risk of being offersheeted too.
