He was certainly better than the return Carolina received.

The only reason Ned was traded was because he wanted to be in Detroit with his significant other. He would have never signed in Toronto or even been traded for so little.

Couple things.

1) Chara doesn't offer the Leafs anything.
2) Cap dump trade is stupid. You'll probably get yelled at the most for this trade, but it doesn't make sense for Toronto. You're trading away decent depth players for nothing. Why?
3) Holl would've been picked over Kerfoot or McCann if exposed. GMs have a hard-on for RHD as evidenced by a good number of trades and signings this offseason.

5) I'm sure Toronto would've jumped at that trade had they known Ned was up for peanuts. But then you have two goaltenders who don't have a ton of game experience as your tandem. Mrázek isn't the apex of goaltender signings but he has experience.

Come on, San Jose has Brett Burns, he's without a doubt better than Stetcher.

Detroit will hardly have the worst D in the league.

Stecher was pretty solid for us, Burns is aging and grossly overpaid.

It’s amazing how bad the Leafs are even though they have 3 of the better forwards in the league. Canes might not have that scoring talent yet, but we can actually win a playoff round.

I also remember that Leafs fans like to dump on Freddy because he couldn’t win you a playoff series. But how much of that was Freddy’s fault compared to how bad the d core is up there?

No it’s true. Ned’s girlfriend lives in Detroit and apparently they both wanted more time together. Not exactly how a mobile franchise works but ok. Whatever makes Ned happy, would make me happy. If only he had stuck with us.
