Description
Does Edmonton pay to dump Koskinens cap?

Thoughts?

I really like Buffalos core D moving forward. Their goaltending and forward line up are mkuch in need of improvement. But with all their picks and cap space, that could be solved quite quickly.

Koskinen is going to Buffalo not Montreal. I wrote Montreal in discription by accident!

Buffalo doesn't do this trade.

The best pieces in this trade are the 1st round picks and I don't expect them to be lottery picks if Montreal has Eichel on the team. Not to mention you got 2 cap dumps in there.

I'm not sure I'd do it even if there were 3 1sts instead of 2. It would be a tough decision.

I am! What's your point? I like making teams for a lot of teams. I try and be as rational and realistic as possible. Doesn't mean I always succeed :P

Why would Edmonton trade a pick along with their 1B goalie?

At the beginning of this past season Smith was injured and Holland screwed up the backup situation repeatedly, and it meant that Koskinen had to play every game of a wicked schedule - 12 games in 24 nights traveling thousands of miles through 4 timezones - which isn't something ANY goalie can stand up under. It wasn't fair to Koskinen but Tippett had little choice but to keep throwing him over the boards, so his results were poor over that stretch. I don't fault Koskinen for that, he did his best in an impossible situation.

If you look at his last 2 seasons combined without those 12 games to get a look at how he performs under normal circumstances, his save percentage is .916. Even including that bad stretch, he still posted a decent .910 over the past 2 seasons.

Just explaining to anyone wondering why a Sabre fan would want such a mess

I would say Romanov is the best piece in this trade. Not the 2 firsts. Plus I personally don't view Drouin as a cap dump. I think 2 years x 5.5m is very fair for his upside.

In terms of value in my mind:

1. Romanov (A Prospect)
2 + 3. 1st round picks
4. Drouin
5. Poehling (B Prospect)
6. Byron (Cap Dump but can still play)

This team would absolutely get slaughtered... That will be the case regardless though. Are you suggesting the trade is a mess? If so, why?

Drouin has been having serious mental health difficulties. There's no shame in that but he's not gonna be as effective of a player when he's gotta fight his depression and suicidal ideation.

I consider Romanov more of a B/B+ prospect. A prospects are guys like Sandin, Robertson, Caufield, Cozens guys you don't really see being moved too much in ACGMs.

I'd want the equivalent of 4 1sts for Eichel and then extra for any cap dumps you're giving.

I go blue chip and then A prospects. Those guys you listed are blue chippers.

I would consider Romanov, Amirov and guys like that as A prospects.

Funny part of that overworked stretch one could argue kosk was the most consistent oiler during it. The entire team started the season like they never played at the professional level before. Turn over after turn over guys being left wide open in the slot missed assignments everywhere the team was worse than he was.

Even if you move him, you might as well do it for a long term starter and include him, rather than dump him separately. It's generally cheaper to include salary going back in a deal, and it's an expiring contract.
