Krebs can not win the cup for Vegas this year.

Kessel can.

Why can’t Krebs win the cup with Vegas this year? It’s not like he’s super far away from the NHL.

If Dadonov is a cap dump, then why did Vegas just trade a pick to get him?

Because he had a bad year with Ottawa and he has a cap hit of 5 million.

He can score goals and be a top 6 forward if put with the right group of players (Huberdeau and Barkov are one).

Not sure Vegas would be good fit for him.

We thought Ottawa was a good fit when we signed him to 5 million x 3.

But we were wrong.

I said win the cup for Vegas, not with them.

Don't twist my words around like some people are doing here.

Kessel is a far better player than Dadonov and almost won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2016 if it weren't for Crosby.

What everybody seems to be ignoring for their own convenience is that Arizona is retaining Kessel's salary.

We're now on the next page of comments and nobody has brought that up until now.

It seems like salary retention doesn't mean anything to some people.

1) when trading a piece like Krebs, you need to get more than one year of Value.
2) another winger isn't the thing that Vegas needs to put them over the edge. They need a top 6 C.

It was a bad trade for Vegas that everybody thought Ottawa won cleanly.

https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/495251

Okay that doesn’t change the fact that’s he’s not a cap dump based on real life and not in forums of fans. Fans can have their values of players but the only values that matter are the ones GMs put on players and then fans have to change their views based on that.

Dadonov got a 3rd so based on that he’s not a cap dump.

1. Kessel is a poker player who competes in his spare time at the WSOP in Vegas.

Vegas is on his list of 8 teams.

He specifically asked the Coyotes front office (in person or through his agent) for a trade to Vegas.

Vegas will be a top location for him when he becomes a UFA next year.

It's for more than 1 year of value, guaranteed.

2. Don't you think San Jose should have thought the same thing when trading Norris and their 2020 1st round pick for 1 year of EK65?

3. They might need a top 6 C but they haven't gone out and got one so far.

Many people thought Kessel should have won the Conn Smythe in 2016 instead of Crosby.

So, Kessel could put them over the edge if they actually got him from Arizona.

1. If fans are supposed to believe whatever a GM says when it comes to placing a value on a given player, then they shouldn't be constantly calling on some to be fired.

Jim Benning is one example.

2. Vegas got Dadonov when Ottawa was trying to dump him.

He was nothing more than a cap dump during his time in Ottawa.

We signed him because we thought we were getting the goal scorer that he was in Florida.

Only time will tell whether he turns into a cap dump for Vegas.

Cap dumps don’t get an NHLer and a 3rd in return.

Cap dumps can be NHLers too.

Vegas just happened to get the better, but more expensive NHLer and then paid a 3rd for that better NHLer.

There's no universally accepted definition of a cap dump on this site anyway frown

Krebs is Vegas best shot at a number 1 Center, too me he looks like a poor mans Sakic, his elc and production going to be huge soon, too offset other big salary’s. At this point is kessel going to have that much of a production difference than dadanov, I would gamble on dadanov with a lesser role on Vegas to have a bounce back year. Not sure if kessel waives to wpg, but a copp with a running out of team control for kessel might be kind of interesting.

A cap dump is a player that you have to pay for another team to take because of his cap hit, ie Stralman.

Some players’ cap hits may make returns less than desirable but still get a decent positive value, ie Dadonov.

My definition of a cap dump is a player and his contract/cap hit that you don't want on your team anymore and you want to dump on some other team.

Like when a bunch of kids in a high school cafeteria dump a bunch of rotten food on someone that nobody likes.

A good example is when those darn 2007 Stanley Cup Champions decided to dump Erik Gudbranson on yours truly smile

Who does Arizona get then if they are retaining enough salary, so Vegas' cap hit stays the same after swapping Kessel and Dadonov?

Any names come to mind besides Krebs?

Maybe their late 1st? Maybe a 2nd or Brisson or Chayka? Dorofeyev, Morozov? There are quite a few pieces that could work.

I think I'd want Kessel half retained. If Arizona did that I'd probably take the deal as Vegas.

Linehan10.

You sure you're ok?

Either way, the Islanders will ride out the Hickey/Komarov contracts and this whole conversation will be moot.

Uh actually unless they plan to play hickey at LD2 they probably move on from him.

That’s fair. I think if the return is a late pick or a older AHLer that can be called a cap dump. Gudbranson for a 7th was a cap dump but Dadonov getting a 3rd isn’t.

Also Gudbranson was solid for ANA. Turned a 7th into a 5th lol

wouldn't it be Smith who was going for Kessel

Basically rental for rental and if Arizona retains than a pick could also go with Smith

cause I don't think Dadonov waives to go to Arizona

The Islanders are sitting on 12 million in cap space at the moment.

The incentive to pay more assets to create more cap space by dumping Hickey or Komarov is not the same as it used to be for the Islanders.

1. Smith is an alternate captain for Vegas and can perform in the playoffs.

Dadonov has not shown either of those two things.

If Vegas prefers to give Smith to Arizona instead of Dadonov, then sure.

2. Arizona will be retaining in any Kessel trade with Vegas, regardless if Arizona gets Smith or Dadonov.

3. Dadonov's only trade protection is a list of 10 teams to which he can not be traded.

Arizona is not necessarily in the basement.

Dadonov has never played for Arizona or lived in Arizona before.

Without knowing anything about his no-trade list, I place the odds that Arizona is on his no-trade list at around 50/50 more or less.
