Dermott is a good defenceman on a good contract who can play the right side, Abramov is also a good prospect who is skilled, fast and looked good at the world juniors

You guys act like it’s a bad thing. Right now the pens have like 12 forwards they don’t want to lose for nothing. If they trade one prior to the draft, they will just lose someone else they don’t want to lose. They’ve pretty much come to terms that they are losing a valuable player for nothing. It’d be different if the pens only had 1 good player they couldn’t protect and were ok losing someone else so they trade him for something like most other teams are doing. Or are trading a NMC to protect someone else. But this isn’t the case.

I get what you’re saying in that the Pens have a lot of players who they don’t want to lose for nothing, but that doesn’t mean that other teams just forget that McCann likely will be exposed and selected. Look at the graves trade, didn’t get nearly this much back. Both guys are the same age, graves has more term but McCann is an RFA. I’d literally price the return just about the same, but a bit more for McCann due to position and last years results. I think from Toronto, a fair return would be Hallander, Liljegren and a 3rd. Or you could swap hallander for Abramov and make the pick a 2nd. Basically just taking a better prospect than Maltsev.

Amirov is easily worth more than a 1st at this point. He’s got more value than McCann at this point just due to his potential and age.
