If Sturm bumps to 3C or goes to Seattle

Description
Just curious if the value is here for the other teams involved. I think MIN will be in the hunt for a low cost bottom 6 C and I think they’re willing to move Greenway for a younger guy and possibly a pick or 2. Until MIN officially selects 7-3-1 or trades Dumba, I think Greenway is exposed so this would probably be a draft day scenario similar to the Kunin deal.
Transactions
1.
MIN
  1. Poehling, Ryan [Droits de RFA]
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2021 (MTL)
Détails additionnels:
A discussion for KK probably starts with Fiala so that’s a different thread. Poehling looks like he’ll be a bottom 6 C in the NHL.
MTL
  1. Greenway, Jordan
Détails additionnels:
I wonder if the 21 1st could be in play with some lower picks going the other way.
2.
MIN
  1. McLeod, Ryan
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2022 (EDM)
Détails additionnels:
McLeod looks ready for the NHL in a bottom 6 role but could develop into a top 9 role. If EDM views RNH as a 3C, I think this deal makes more sense for them.

Could there be a swap of 20/21 if Cossa is still on the board?
EDM
Greenway - Seems to fit the idea that EDM is looking for “playoff” players and I think MTL’s run this year will reemphasize size.

Depending on who the Habs lose with expansion and free agency I think they do this. If Danault resigns they for sure do it, if he doesn't they probably don't because they'd need Poehling but I'd like this deal

It’s good value, although the extra $1.35 million isn’t ideal on the tight cap. But with some maneuvering the habs could probably make it work.

Yeah I agree. Greenway would give them a big strong top 6 left shot left winger that they’re really lacking right now. If the first line ends up being Caufield-Suzuki-Anderson, Greenway would slot really nicely on a line of him-KK-Toffoli

They’ll have space. Tatar’s 4.5 mil will be off the books and ideally Drouin goes to Seattle so that’s another ~10 mil on top of what they already have. They can slot in another 1.5 mil for a young, very productive top 6 winger

I think RNH will end up playing wing but they probably need him as 3C to be a contender IMO. And if McLeod ends up as the 3C this year it def doesn’t make sense to move him. I just think he’s a 4C this year.

That extra 1.3 mil in space is why MIN would give the value here.

FWIW, as a MIN fan, I would much rather see Greenway play with Anderson. Much better fit than KK and Toff, IMO.

Well that’d work too. Run Toff-Suzuki-Caufield line one (hopefully it was just the groin injury that slowed Toff down rounds 3 and 4) and run Greenway-Kk-Anderson line 2

That’s what I was envisioning. I think that second line could actually do some damage. Greenway and Anderson forechecking would wear down the D while providing good secondary scoring.

I think I'd do this for the Habs but I would need to know whats happening with Drouin beforehand. Can't do it if he's not on LTIR anymore.

I’m waiting to see what happens with him and what’s been going on. If he’s LTIR or Fiala gets moved, the Wild could be interested.

Yeah its a big question mark right now but I could imagine he would be available for cheap if someone was interested and Drouin wanted a fresh start. Assuming all those things above happened, what would you expect the trade to look like?

I haven’t really thought about it. As far as it goes, clearing 5.5 mil in cap for 2 year (assuming he’s never playing for MTL) is a pretty big favor. I would probably just tack him onto the return here but I think it would be more complicated than that.

But as far as it goes, the Wild could use 5.5 mil in LTIR.

Yeah I figured a draft pick. I would say send cap back but looking at Minny's contracts, I don't think there's anyone that makes sense. Maybe Rask? Either way though, IF Drouin isn't cleared to play yet, he wont be moved. He'd only get traded once he's ready to play again.

You probably can have both Greenway & Drouin. It means Armia won’t be coming back, and if Chiarot/Allen are chosen by Seattle they’ll need to be replaced by a cheaper option.

It works without trading anyone other than Kulak. And this isn’t even including the money that might be saved if Seattle chooses Chiarot or Allen.

I’m not expecting Perry to be in the lineup for all 82 games next year. He can be the 13th forward, and in all likelihood he’ll end up playing most of the season anyways, since there’s almost always someone with an injury.

Well will protect Nico sturm. He's coming off the 5th best season in wild rookie history scoring 12 goals playing on 3rd / 4th line Winger before being moved back to his natural position, and was amazing

I think they should protect him too, but it’s by no means a lights out choice. You’re looking at exposing one of Greenway, Hartman, or Sturm if you go 7-3-1 and this is also a scenario where we fill in the 4th line C spot by flipping Greenway and his cap hit if Sturm is elevated. But I don’t think that’s a guarantee either.

Man, Minnesota is just a fountain of riches for Seattle to sift through. Good thing for the Wild that the Kraken only get to pick one player.
