Staal won't cost 3.75 mil. Likely half that. Nielsen will be bought out. Seattle likely takes Namestnikov. Grubauer will re-sign with Colorado. Wings will re-sign Bernier. Avs gave up 2 second round picks for Toews. He won't be traded. Erne is Stevie's son so he'll be re-signed. Avs don't need Erne.

No on Murray. Go for Oleksiak. Maybe Martinez on a 2 year deal. I'd rather play Givani Smith over re-signing Gagner. No on Wennberg. Play Veleno. I can't see Glenny getting 3 mil but I don't mind re-signing him for 1-2 years.

Vrana likely gets a 4 year deal. Stevie isn't addicted to term like Holland was. See Abdelkader, Z, Mule, Helm, Ericsson, Dekeyser, Nielsen, etc. I have Hronek at 4 years/4.5 mil AAV.

The Av's have approximately $20M in Cap Space for 2021-22, they have Erik Johnson ($6M) and Pavel Francouz ($2M) on LTIR for a total of $8M, they have to re-sign Makar ($8M+) and Ladeskog will also get a raise over the $5.6M he's currently getting. Furthermore, Bowen Byram, a LD, will need a place to play and other roster spots will need to be filled. And we haven't even mentioned Bradnon Saad' expiring deal yet.

Adam Erne was a 2nd round pick and the 2021 2nd rounder from Edmonton would make this equivalent, if not more considering Erne is an ACTUAL NHL player, than what the Av's originally gave the Islanders.

I can't see Staal getting half that, I say Detroit pays for Nielsen to go away, but that's my opinion, Colorado will be in tough to sign Grubauer with Makar and Landeskog up for new deals. Bowen Byram is good enough to play in the NHL and will force the Av's to make a move on D to allocate money as noted above. I know Yzerman loves Erne, but the Av's will need to replace Saad and Detroit needs D.

I also like Oleksiak, but with my roster I felt like him and Staal are too similar. Martinez was another option, but I prefer Murray. Gagner is a utility player that can play either center or wing, I like his versatility and the fact he's a right hand shot.

Appreciate the feedback!

He's 27 and on a bargain contract.

Thanks nonetheless for the feedback!

Why would Yzerman pay Seattle to take Nielsen? He's old and washed up. Why not just buy him out and keep the draft pick? If I'm Francis, why would I even want Nielsen? He doesn't help my team now and I can't flip him for anything good at the trade deadline.

Seattle will need to get to the cap floor unless they take a bunch of bad contracts...the draft pick is why Francis takes him.

I understand Seattle needing to get to the cap floor of 61.5 million. But they could make a side deal with a team like Tampa for instance and take local boy Tyler Johnson (who can still play) and gain a good young player in Barre-Boulet as a sweetener plus get a 1st round pick. That's a better use of 5 mil than taking Nielsen's rotting hockey corpse and a 3rd Rd pick.

Colorado will have 21+mil going into the offseason, IF johnson and franky go on IR they're gonna have 30 mil in space. That will be plenty of money without gift bagging toews to the red wings like that

Isn’t Keith Petruzzelli heading for free agency?
Hasn’t signed by now, hasn’t entered transfer protocol.

My useless prediction of week: Petro signs elsewhere. Strauss Mann then signs with Detroit.

You'll get no argument from me that there are better ways to spend $5M, but I can find plenty of other examples of NHL GMs making worse mistakes than this. We can all come up with a million different pie in the sky scenarios that make sense to us, but at the end of the day, it's nothing more than an exercise for fans as you and I and 'coga16' and 'ArakinSkywalker' are nothing more than keyboard jockeys.

This from the guy who trades thinks Boston will trade Donskoi for DeBrusk and makes sure to put a caveat next to his trades to avoid any chance of criticism or discussion. Move along.

You know that Donskoi as a bruins target has been discussed with Boston fans on this site....and they have proposed DeBrusk to the avs before as well.. So you know maybe dont talk out of your butt on what you dont know.

That’s some pretzel logic. There are a plethora of players the Avs move before Toews if they need cap space. You actually think the Avs a Cup contender are trading there top minute eating defenseman for that package? That’s such a hard and fast easy no. And before you ask who they would move before that try everybody on the roster besides the top line, Makar, Girard, Newhook and Byram. Toews is not going anywhere.

No, just stating that the guy who has nothing but negative comments can move along.

If you'd like to have a discussion, I'm all for it, but I'm not going to be goaded by someone who relies on capfriendly.com to display their vast hockey knowledge.

Not all Pretzels are straight. Graves would be another option, but obviously Toews is more desired. How would you go about building the Wings blueline?

If you had some valid points behind that trade there would be something to discuss but when Avs fans and even detroit fans agree, Toews is not for sale. You are barking up the wrong tree

*woof woof*

"Armchair GM" is a derogatory term for a person who regards themselves as an expert on hockey matters, despite having little to no actual experience in playing hockey. Alternatively, it can mean a hockey fan who does not participate in the actual sport.
