Just because he is not a franchise altering player does not mean his value is as low as proposed.
He is a solid top 6 winger, with the potential to be a contributing piece on a top line, albeit not the line driver.
The two picks in the third round will have a roughly 20-25% chance to make the NHL on a regular basis, not be a contributing piece, just make the NHL.
Nolan Patrick has had some very unfortunate health issues that make him a significant longshot to get to the point where he is regularly contributing in a top 6 role, and may not ever do so.

So why would Detroit give up a capable top 6 guy for a 20-25% shot at a roster player, and Patrick?

Hard pass, Patrick is literally damaged goods demanding a raise. If you want Bertuzzi, the deal needs to include York otherwise it doesn’t fill a need for Detroit.


Good luck finding the next Brayden Point in the third round. Probably want to look up the odds of a third rounder even getting 99 NHL games let alone being top4/6 quality.

You need to consider both upside AND likelihood of success. There is upside in a 3rd round pick, there is a chance that youll find a star there, but the chance of doing so is low, so the value is low because 90% of the time not only will you not get a superstar, you likely wont get a regular player, and theres a reasonable chance they wont even play a game for your franchise.
