Yup, which is maybe a coaching mistake. This is going to sound absurd but the Matthews line has not moved through the neutral zone very well at all. With all eyes on marner and Matthews maybe Engvall could be of better use there.

Personally I think you put the zip line back together. Use kerfoot on the 4th line to add speed.

I'm not much of an analytics person. I'm more of a TOI believer, playing against opposition top lines, and intangibles. Analytics are great for certain things, however they also bolster some of the worst players in the NHL.

There goes a "hockey watcher" who doesn't have any clue about underlying stats and is too stubborn to learn about them.

I like how at the deadline, NSH traded for, now, the worst player on their team.

Who do they bolster? If you base it on TOI, I assume Alex Goligoski is also a top defenseman. You have to consider how effective the player is in the amount of time he plays.

I don't think Engvall has the hockey sense to be of any use to M & M in the offensive zone.

He's not the type of player that can continually make the nice quick little touches that are necessary when paired with them.

And if the other team can more or less ignore him as a threat, then M & M are easier to shutdown.

He's a better shooter than Zach Hyman though.

Totally disagree. Seth Jones was amazing in the playoffs and he's a wonderful player. I just think trying to dissect anything about Columbus right now is difficult. Nothing is going right for them. The coach will be changed next year obviously and things will change.
I'm sure Seth jones is also tired of seeing all the departures: Foligno, Dubois, Anderson, panarin, Duchesne, Babrovski....it's slowly become a dumpster fire.

analytical he is one of the worst players on the CBJ, the team has better results with him off the ice. Thats why its a fair take, harsh but there is some merit behind it

He’s worse than komarov. Zajac can win faceoffs , that’s it. He has the worst offensive impact among isles forwards right now and he’s not even good defensively

Can we agree that the measure of a players caliber is beyond analytics?

No one soley looks at analytics alone to do player Evals, its a tool to measure variables of a players game, and wihtout context they are meaningless.

However the data does present itself within the context of the season, that Jones is hurting the Blue Jackets when he is on the ice, and that is due to over usage, He is the teams icetime leader in all situations. Poor play, poor usage, poor deployment due to coaching.

The guy who plays the most on the roster and is brining negative impacts to the teams success. And its a huge gap in icetime, they play Jones way way too much for how poorly he is struggling
