Absolutely head scratching

Description
Henrique is 2nd on the Ducks in xGF/60 behind Heinen. Both have been healthy scratches this season. Shattenkirk has similar xGF/60 and xGA/60 as Henrique yet he’s the Ducks ice time leader. Yet somehow Henrique is the scapegoat. Eakins is an inept coach and destroyed any value Henrique had when he scratched him because the team played absolutely awful vs STL.

Henrique scored 26 goals last season. He’s basically a 20-20-40 guy in his full seasons. Is 5.825M a bit high? Maybe a little bit.

Eakins needs to go sooner rather than later and GMBM shouldn’t be too far behind him. Absolutely bottled asset management with this. And Shattenkirk has been an utter failure of a signing.

After saying all that a Ducks blog said NJD had interest in a reunion before this all happened. Maybe he goes back?

And Ducks fans kept saying this offseason that Seattle wouldn't take Henrique as he'd be protected for sure

Not really. He was coming off 26 goals. This is awful management. But at least your name suits you.

It's also cap management for a low budget team. Putting Henrique on waivers makes him eligible for the taxi squad which saves his daily cap hit each day he's on the taxi squad. If he clears, they can move him between the roster and taxi squad and NHL roster without worry of waivers for 30 days and accumulate cap space. If he gets claimed, the team gets out of an overpaid player without giving up additional assets and it saves them more money.

Fans need to read when they see guys go on waivers. This season especially when it was a flat cap. Nick Suzuki got sent down to the taxi squad too, it was purely a cap move. Many teams have done it.

Chill.

It’s not about cap management. It’s about sending a message.

“Adam is not alone in this. But I’m tired of talking and waiting. We need results and difficult decisions must be made.”- GMBM.

They already use Backes to manipulate the cap. This is nothing like the Suzuki situation. This is poor asset management. He had positive value before all the “message sending”.

Preach man. He's sucked and if he gets claimed we get out of a not great contract. If he doesn't, Eakins has come out and said he'll continue to get a shot, maybe he boosts his value enough to get traded. We probably shouldn't have extended him, but it looked like he was actually living up to the contract last year. He just fell off a cliff this season and guys like Lundestrom have pushed their way into a roster spot, making him very expendable.

No but he also shouldn’t be on waivers which is the point of the post. The ineptitude of management here is the problem.

He’s actually not sucked which is the whole point of the post. He’s 2nd on the team in xGF/60 behind Heinen. Those 2 have been healthy scratches because Eakins wants to prove a point. They’re tanking as a team and tanking assets value all at once.

I wonder if this is a step toward making a move for Jack Eichel.

Eichel won’t be traded til the offseason and ducks will have plenty of cap space then. So not really. Plus I’m not sure ANA is an Eichel suitor anyways.

Ah yes. You were right. Prior to the season it made 100% sense to think a 26g C wouldn’t be protected. The only tool here is you Moron.
