That counteroffer is a joke. Strome is absolutely worth more than two 2nd rounders and a cap dump.
The initial offer is, as said previously, Sokolov+1st for Strome, which imo is fair for a 24 year old 50 point C. CHI agrees to take Rask's whole contract for a 2nd, like DET did with Staal.
How is it any different than what the original offer was.
Overpayed 4th liner
A draft bust (Failed Prospect)
Unprotected 1st
2022 2nd rounder
OR
Same 4th liner at actual payed value
Player with middle six potential (B-level Prospect)
2022 2nd rounder
Strome is better than his brother, there is no doubt about that. Doesn't change the fact that like his brother he's a middle sixer and not a top six center.
He hit 51 points
once, and benefited from playing with Kane. And hasn’t been close since. He
might be a 40 point player, and even if he is, I wouldn't give up a unprotected 1st for him. His brother did much the same with Panarin. Would you give up a unprotected 1st for Ryan Strome?
Until I see otherwise, I maintain Dylan had a career year riding the coattails of one of the leagues best wingers.
Hell, Jason Zucker once scored 60+ points in a season. Does that make him a 60 point player then? Zucker could no doubt be a consistent 50 point player playing in the Penguins top six, doubt he would do so on the Wild.
I could see a scenario where Strome hits 40 on a regular basis if he gels with one of Fiala or Kaprizov. But let's not pretend he isn't anything more then a low-end 2C.
