Murphy is equal value to Holl who they already have and fits the roll of what they need better (way better puck mover). Not to mention he's on a way better contract.

Rakell might be an intriguing piece, that package is a bit too low for him though. Not to mention that Toronto is better off protecting Dermott or Holl on the expansion draft over him, and they ultimately decline.

Years of control? Kubalik has 3, Murphy has 2, Nylander has 4.

Cap reasons? Moving Kubalik plus Murphy even with the retained is $6.3M off the cap. Acquiring Nylander plus the retained salary is $8.21M for a difference of only $1.91M for a substantial upgrade of Nylander of Kubalik. If you can't justify spending an extra $1.91M for the better, younger player.. then you're nuts.

I'll be surprised if Toews does retire. 99% of players don't retire when they can still play...they know they have another 50 years of retirement. Besides he owed 13.8m in salary.
Hawks would still be subject to some recapture cap penalty if he does retire.

Thanks for proving my point. Yep there only 1.9m difference in Nylander versus the the combined Murphy, Kubalik cap. But then the Hawks have to add a Dman for let's say a 1m so that's a 2.9m difference.

Boychuk is on LTIR,so recapturing isn't an injury. Recapturing happens when a player retires, and his contract has been front loaded in actual $$$$. Luongo is an example.

The difference in Nylander and Kubalik is FAR greater than $1.91M. & Chicago has defensive prospects they can add for under $1M. So again, your point literally makes no sense.

I can't see the Hawks doing this. Yes, they do need a speedy winger. No doubt. That isn't their biggest or 2nd biggest areas of need though. They need a goalie which they're working on and they need a 2nd Murphy. He's crushing it so far this year.

i would play vessey instead of robertson for the rest of the season but after this year if vessey leaves then robertson would play

Agree, Murphy is looking like a bonafide top liner on many teams. Not only is he a +3 on a bad team, but he's shutting down his man and playing physical (13 hits in 6 games) as usual plus has 5 points in 6 games including 2 goals.

IF and it's a BIG IF the Hawks trade Murphy there is not a chance they retain, he's a bargain at $3.8M.

I like Nylander a lot, but giving up Kubs and Murph plus retention is just too much for one position despite being a pretty fair trade on paper.
