Tavares is one of few players in the league with two career playoff game winning goals in OT one of which was a series winning goal in 15-16
Basically singlehandedly carried that isles team to the 2nd round he had 2x as many goals as next most
He has 30 points in 36 career playoff games
What on earth on is he doing here
😐
Not to mention Tavares is also 3rd in the entire league in individual expected goals since per 60 since he joined the Leafs. I really don’t understand why he gets so underrated on social media. His lack of playoff appearances is not due to his ability, but rather the fact he’s been on terrible teams. The fact that he averaged 78 points every 82 games for the Islanders is actually incredible.

Its because he has no leadership skills. Guy is a robot. Very uninspiring for the extremely soft and weak minded young players they have on the team
Max Pacioretty has a 0.62 P/G in the playoffs and 0.72 in the regular season. That doesn’t seem like choking, especially with lower scoring in the playoffs.

If you see a drop of in P/G you're definitely not stepping up ur game in the playoffs. I think he buckles under the pressure
Joe Thornton has earned that reputation, whether you agree with it or not
I mean he has good numbers in the playoffs but yeah I agree. As the best player and leader of your team, Joe has to take responsibility for sharks never winning a cup. That team was STACKED for a decade and couldn’t muster up a cup. I’d also throw in Henrik/Daniel Sedin if I can include past players. Same argument for them too. Had some good numbers but just could never lead their team over the hump
I think the most interesting “choker” is probably MAF. Dude had some clutch moments including 2008 and 2009 but was AWFUL from 2010-2013. His performance against MTL, Philly, and Isles/Boston probably held the penguins from winning another cup.
But on the flip side dude has 3 Stanley cup rings and an incredible 2018 playoff performance where he took an expansion team to the finals.

Just because you aren’t “stepping up your game” doesn’t mean you’re a “choker”. He doesn’t get better during the playoffs, but he’s not much worse either. The Pacioretty Playoff Choker thing is all just a bunch of BS that the majority of Montreal’s crappy media are obsessed with.

Yes. MAF could be on the clutch list or the checkers list. Depending on the year

He may not have an outrageous personality but as an individual he performs. He’s led his team in scoring chances by a wide margin every playoffs. There’s only so much 1 player can do.

even by the numbers his production dipped. A choke artist to say the least

MAF had 4 straight playoffs with a sub 88 save percentage & during that span gave up 31 more goals than the average goaltender. He had some clutch moments but he’s not a HOF in my book.

By that logic Chris Kreider is an even bigger choker with a 0.11 P/GP drop, and Connor McDavid may be one of the biggest chokers with a 0.28 P/GP drop.
