For the life of me, I cannot figure out why the Kings, a team that is hip deep in a rebuild of their own, would agree to a trade like that one.

I can’t figure out why you are giving up the better player and the better picks. Makes no sense.

Also leafs decline. Leafs have Rielly, muzzin, Dermott, lehtonen, Sandin, Marincin and Rosen on the left. We would much rather keep Holl.

Zajac has been their guy for more than a decade, and could retire as a Devil for a lesser price. They won't trade him unless he asks for it. And the Devils would never sign the guy who screwed them up.

I know, but Dermott is a RD (left shot) and is plaing on the L. the trade gives Lehtonen Sandin Lilijgren some playing time, Kulikov is just a 7th option and is cheaper than Holl by 500 k.

Yeah. I mean, on the one hand, the 2021 draft is going to be wild and unpredictable wrt prospects developing during the pandemic and the lack of scouting, so maybe trading for 2022 picks makes a weird kind of warped sense, but to go from a 2nd and a 3rd and Määttä to a 4th and 5th and a well past his prime Subban makes no earthly sense from the Kings perspective.

Do they get a guy for the top 4 we get a press box sitter and we give up the better pick?

Like I said, leafs will keep their defensive depth.

Dermott will play top 4 with Muzzin, I think the leafs would be better off with that trade, with the top 4

Again, leafs keep the depth. Rotate Dmen in and out in a condensed season. They keep that solid depth for injuries on a nice long playofff run.

that's utterly awful. Holl is better than Dermott right now, and Dermott may never be able to play top 4, especially on his off side. Kulikov is trash too. what a terrible trade for the leafs

Los Angeles isn't giving up better picks to take Subban and his higher cap hit off New Jersey's hands. And the on-ice value of Maata and Subban isn't wide any more.
