You'd have to pay the Kings to take Okposo, even at 50% retention.

They've been actively trying to trade him. Your Gm went as far as saying this won't be the roster we enter camp with. You have a plethora of LD and abysmal RD. Take Montour then if you want less term, but something has got-to-give on that blueline.

Yup the standard rate for that type of situation is a 1st and 2nd round pick it's quite steep but reasonably

Not trying to be patronizing to OP but we should all be more welcoming to people just starting to post here... it's definitely overwhelming and tricky early on

Not the worst Raanta proposal. I don’t know enough about Fitzgerald’s prospect pedigree but the 3rd rounder is a decent return in itself. I get the feeling that the coyotes are going to roll with Raanta and Keumper again this year and try and flip one at the TDL, but I’d take this deal

Flames will do this right after Buffalo sends Calgary Jokiharju for Klington and 4th. You know to help with Buffalos log jam on the right side.

It needs to make sense for both teams.

This does not.

Sportsnet Oct 16, 2020 article. Brad Treliving, post-Mangiapane deal, "We're not done" ...... "We don't expect this is the team we go to training camp with."

The sense that I made of it is Hanifin, Lindholm and Bennett have continued to be talked in rumors (per Elliot Friedman), and Treliving wants to shake up core after another disappointing playoffs for them (wish the Sabres got that far). This does that, gives you a pick, and gives you another 1 mill in cap space to make another move if so be it.

Since then he has signed multiple solid UFA's. Brad has also said he fully intends on keeping the young d-core together. We also have a better top 4 RD than Buffalo so idk how you can call it abysmal.

That fact that you said Lindholm has been in rumors shows you know nothing, besides Tkachuk he is the most untouchable player on the entire roster

Trading Hanafin for scraps was not part of the conversation.

If the Flames are going to shake up the core they are going to want a core or potential core piece back. Miller and a 4th ain't close.

The value is all wrong.

I'm literally citing my sources. I was wrong to say abysmal, more-or-less unsolidified. I like your team a lot, but I think a deal is coming. Unless you're completely happy with your roster, where do you think Calgary adds to the team?

I personally don't see why "something has got-to-give on that blueline". Gio, Hanifin and Valimaki will be on the Left side with Tanev, Andersson, and Nesterov/kylington (Lefties who have openly stated they are comfortable on the right side)
Plus with gio getting up there in age they arent in a position to be throwing lefties away for pennies on the dollar.

I completely disagree. At this point in his career, Okposo is a player that I would be fine with paying 2 million. A 2nd which is included is worth more than 1 million in cap Above a serviceable players value.

Ok. Youre wrong. Staal for 1 year at a cap hit of 5.7 cost a 2nd.

Its the cap hit that's the problem, especially with the way the cap is suppose to remain flat or near flat.

Not that I think this trade is a great idea, but Staal is a legitimately terrible player. Okposo has carved out a solid role as a 3rd or 4th line power winger and is probably worth $2M or so in a normal market. So that's not quite a fair comparison.

He really isn't. He's been pretty damn good in his role, and his shot suppression metrics are right up there with Larsson who Sabres fans love.

If he was signed to a $2M AAV contract, people would absolutely love him.
