To be fair, Olofsson and Marchment aren't even remotely similar players.

Thanks for the reply. Seemed like there were more than a few Sharks mocks that had him going for a late 2 or 3+, so those were my baseline. You may be right, what would you say his value is? And at the same time, what would you say Hill's value is?

I don't think any player on this team can use a 36 year old future hall of famer's contract as a negotiation comparable. Apples and oranges.

The Buffalo reporter said that he was hearing NJ had interest in Risto. Friedge then said that he was also hearing that the Devils were interested in Risto.

The Jack Eichel Experiment
I realize that we aren't going to get an equivalent established player for Eichel, but my hope in any sort of trade is that we'd get some piece with the potential of replacing him. I like Comtois and Perrault, and #3 is a pretty dang good add-in, but I just struggle with any proposal that doesn't include a relatively high-end center.
Value is probably fine here, but I don't think I'd make this trade. I'd rather wait for Jack's injury to come to some sort of resolution, and either deal him then when his value is higher or attempt to salvage the relationship and keep him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LindyRuffRider</b></div><div>That's not what Lance said. He didn't say to replace Carrick, but that you have a need for RD.</div></div>
Lance kinda missed the mark there anyway. Carrick can be replaced by pretty much any cheap vet #7D. He's just depth.
From what I can gather, the Devils' larger problem at RD is that they have nobody signed for term and not many right shot defensemen in the prospect pipeline. And Risto doesn't really help with that unless they're convinced that they can get an extension done with him while he's there. Jersey fans, please correct me if I'm mistaken.

We can agree to see it different, but put yourself in the Sabres' shoes. Why would a team in this position be giving up assets to trade a productive player with only a year left under contract?

Like others have said, Risto isn't a cap dump. Sabres would be perfectly fine keeping him for the next year and possibly moving him at the deadline.
If the Devils are reportedly interested in him, they would be the ones giving up an asset.

Staal had a slow start, bit he's looked solid as of late. No chance that Bennett playa 2C over him.

If he clears
Clearing waivers doesn't do anything to benefit Deangelo's trade value. It can make depth players more valuable because then the receiving can store them in the minors until they need them, but that clearly isn't the case here.
Deangelo was waived because he's a toxic human being and teammate, and we can assume that the Rangers did everything they could to trade him before taking this drastic measure. He has no value, and I'd bet that he clears waivers because the red flags on him are just so strong.

Anyone Concerned About Lafreniere
He's a rookie, the vast vast majority don't even start in the NHL. And he's on a subpar team, which isn't going to help him out. He'll be fine.
And as a general note, you'll drive yourself crazy judging expected goals numbers on a 2 and 3 game sample. The sample size just isn't there to get good data.

Dunn trade to every team
Alright everyone. These are the Blues' 5v5 time on ice per game numbers from the regular season last year:
1. Parayko 19.25
2. Boumeester 18.37
3. Pietrangelo 18.06
4. Faulk 17.61
5. Scandella 17.16
6. Dunn 14.34
7. Gunnarsson 13.6
Note that Scandella only played 11 games in this sample.
I have hardly watched St. Louis play at all last year, but I think it's fair to say he was clearly a 3rd pairing defenseman. And this isn't a 'our pairings are balanced so the 3rd pair gets more responsibility' situation. There is a <strong>very</strong> clear drop-off in ice time when it gets to Dunn. Additionally, he had the most offensive-zone skewed faceoff starts percentages on the team last year (outside of Mikkola, Walman, and Pouliot, who each played 5 games or less). so it's safe to say he did in fact get sheltered usage.
It's completely fine to have your own opinions on who Dunn is and what he can develop into, but to say he wasn't a sheltered 3rd pairing defenseman last year is simply untrue.

More Trades
This team threw Risto into the fire for the first 5 or 6 years of his career. He only started to get more reasonable usage last season.
I'm willing to put the beginning of his career aside when evaluating Risto as a player. He absolutely still has his flaws, and he's definitely not a true #1 defenseman, but I think it's fair to say he's a solid #2/#3 guy.
He 100% is not the negative value cap dump that many on this site claim he is.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shibbal18</b></div><div>Dahlin is not going to get the contract people think hes going to get, especially after this season.</div></div>
Completely agree. Sergachev's contract is the comp I'm using for Dahlin right now.
But even with Dahlin getting a modest bridge deal, I'm pretty sure this would eliminate any chance of keeping Hall. I'd have to run the numbers though, I haven't dug too deep into that.

From a hockey perspective, I don't mind that trade. But I have concerns with it from a cap perspective.
We're trading away $6.6M in cap space for contracts that end this year. And we're receiving $8.5M in cap space that expires after <strong>next</strong> year.
Next year, we need to extend Dahlin and Jokiharju, and we may want to re-sign Hall. Making this trade immediately makes re-signing Hall impossible, and honestly could hinder our ability to give those other guys long-term deals and still have flexibility to make other moves. And to me, the possibility of re-signing Hall is more valuable than two years of an overpriced aging goalie and a 3LD.

Personally, I'd much rather have Skinner at 9 than Bob at 10. Skinner should at the least provide decent secondary scoring through that contract. Bob could easily become a 10 million dollar backup goalie at this rate.

Interesting how different eyes see different things, cause I thought Dahlin had a really rough night.
To the posted team, I'd imagine that 5.5x5 is much, much more than Andersen will be getting after this season. But that'll depend on how he does this year.

For offloading Montour, I think Detroit makes sense. They have some highly rated young defensemen coming in soon on the right side, but for a year Montour would be a nice buffer. And then they can flip him at the deadline for a nice return.

Laine trade cuz Im bored
I don't think the value is too bad here, maybe a shade of an overpay in my opinions but certainly in the ballpark. Good work there.
But realistically, we probably will try to keep Hall around after the season. And in that case, we wouldn't really be in the market for Laine.
