Which d man signs for 1 million

Description
I believe that the only other thing the flames will do this offseason (with the expansion draft coming) is maybe sign another d man, and move kylington to stockton.

But which of the remaining RD big dogs would sign for 1 million dollars for 1 year?

Rutta and Bowey it's possible. Wouldn't bet on Hamonic and Vatanen though.

Bowey/Rutta seem to be the likeliest. Hamonic and Vatman *should* still have a reasonable market. I'm actually kind of surprised that Hamonic hasn't signed with Winnipeg...he always seemed like he wanted to be close to home.

Well, Hamonic *should* sign for that cause he's bad. Vatanen is servicable as a middle pairing guy, but Rutta is the second best out of the bunch. Bowey is garbage.

Flames D coach, Ryan Huska, coached Bowey in junior. If they haven’t signed him by now, I don’t think they will.

I think Nesterov simply plays 3rd pair RD

Yeah, I just think people might still buy high on Hamonic for a 1 year deal. His possession numbers have always been bad (even before Calgary gave up a 1st and two 2nds for him...Dobson sure would be nice in Calgary...), but his rough and tumble game style (Grit?) will keep him employed.

I'd probably take Hamonic before Rutta, TBH.

It's just that I don't understand what we judge defensive ability based on. Everyone seems to think Hamonic is defensively good cause he gets defensive deployment, but he's being destroyed in those minutes. I just don't get it.

To be fair, if you look at someone like Chara, analytically, he's been getting destroyed for the past 5 years or so. But I agree...Hamonic is worth about $1-2 mil, and should be a 5th dman.

Yeah, but Chara should also have played 3rd line minutes on that Bruins team. Now he can be effective at preventing zone entires and doing some defensive work, but that's not enough for a guy playing top pairing minutes.

I wouldn't play Hamonic higher up than 6th or 7th D tbh.

I think Hamonic's bowing out of the playoffs hurt his stock with a number of teams - they all say that they respect his decision but behind closed doors I think the conversation was a little different.
