Considering Brodie is the exact type, style and price Toronto was looking for ,why imagine what it would be like to have the overpriced and lesser player in Shultz

Brodie is a much, much better fit for the Leafs. The 1M extra AAV is definitely worth it

I thought it could be comparable to the acquiring of Muzzin in 2019, both him and Schultz are Stanley cup-winners with a lot of experience playing with other great d-men.
But Brodie may be a better fit, we'll have to see.

"much better" lol .... both depend on what player you're getting... risky reward signing only difference is Washington took 2 years, 1 million less of a risk

It's about the fit. Brodie can actually complement Rielly and play a much safer game, which was sorely needed. Schultz may be cheaper but he's a very different style of player and he wouldn't have solved the problem.

I'll disagree, Brodie has been pretty Consistent wasn't Overpaid and literally describes as "the player of need" has played top pair minutes for a few seasons straight and was the catalyst in Gio getting a Norris

Anytime you give a 4year deal to a 30 + year old you take a risk. "consistent" he had 2 bac 2 back 40 + point years (41 then 45) then saw it drop last 3 years to 36, 32 ( both his defesive numbers were awful) 34 ... i would say Gio helped improve his defensive numbers or ill agree it was a give and take. this year he was on pace for 24 points.... sounds like a consistent player. Schultz has also seem his points drop but im not calling him "consistent" i do agree that Brodin is what the Leafs need but his cap hit isnt great (its fair) for a team thats has 3 players making over 10 million

in a sense but if you had to traded 2 other players to make him fit you would be missing those players also... Plus i imagine hes getting 7 years and a NMC... might look like a Keith last 3 years of his deal.

similar risk.... 13 year deal at 24 is actually more reasonable that a 7 year deal at 31... he will be 31 at the start of the season. He's the best player i can compare to AP. Keith at 30 had 61 points in 79 games. Basically started to decline offensively every year after

this guy gets it

Shultz would be Barrie 2.0

Brodie literally is the partner Rielly needed.
