Because Nylander is on a great contract and you'd be selling high. As opposed to Marner being on a "terrible" contract and not really playing to his potential so you'd be selling low and not getting his full value.

I wouldn’t go as far as terrible but he is certainly overpaid. Somewhere between 500k- 1.5m.

Which is not that horrible to a team looking for talent. His production puts him in the top 5 RW in the league category. He plays a healthy 2 way game and kills penalties.

He is also owed far less than his aav with 31 of his 65m already paid off. Bad news is his contract is all signing bonus.

Think the return for him would still be substantial and if you want to factor in petro to the return it may very well be worth while at least investigating.

Mathews is going to be a generational talent where marner is going to be just elite marner also plays with very good players that help him out but he is not worth that much mathews is getting better where marner needs a change and trade him you have a great team. Also Mathews is way better in different aspects of the game.
